I thought Ohio Governor John Kasich w on the recent debate, and he has been the sleeping giant.  Failing to get his message across effectively (coming off as rude, interrupting other speakers)

As Governor, John Kasich’s top priority is to create a jobs-friendly climate so Ohioans can get back to work.  By closing an $8 billion budget shortfall without a tax increase, reducing taxes by more than $800 million, cutting wasteful spending and eliminating red tape, Ohio is getting back on track.  Unemployment is going down, more Ohioans are finding work, and all three credit rating agencies now give Ohio a “stable” credit outlook.

Quote:I'm starting to think the GOP wants a 3-4 horse race throughout the primaries. That wouldn't give anyone the delegates to outright win the nomination and force a brokered convention. At that point the GOP stacks the house with whoever they really want.
You're just now arriving at this conclusion?

It's been obvious for a couple of months now that the GOP is hoping to slide one establishment candidate into a brokered convention, then pay his way into the general election.

Kasich is the antithesis of high energy. Want to guarantee a low voter turnout? Nominate Kasich.
Weve only had one primary. I think its a little early to talk about a brokered convention. Every 4 years the poli-sci guys talk about their dream to cover a brokered convention but it rarely happens.

Has there ever been a year where the Establishment completely lost control of the primaries like this year?

Ron Paul technically won Iowa in 2012, so it isn't surprising to see an outsider like Cruz and Trump do really well in Iowa.. Let us wait until the end of the month to say the establishment has lost control. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an establishment candidate like Rubio, Bush, or even Kasich make a miraculous rise out of nowhere to end up winning the nomination, guaranteeing a victory for the Democrats. Rubio almost did it, but that disastrous debate performance may have just delayed the inevitable.

So what was up the the awkward opening?

I think Carson didn't hear his name called, so he waited until it was. Trump came out and saw what was happening to his friend, maybe thinking he was skipped, so he stood with him. Also, they forgot Kasich, can't blame them for that.

Chris Christie is now the favorite to win the Republican nomination.

If all goes as expected, he will name his chin as his running mate.

Haha Rubiobot is malfunctioning, his programmers better send out a firmware update.

What, did he sit on him or something?
you could do that with any of them.  Christie has been running his stick about being a governor or a prosecutor every debate since the beginning.  If you had to campaign and giver the same speech a hundred times a day you would have moments like this too.

Maybe he should speak from the heart rather than repeating rehearsed talking points provided by his advisers and special interests to prevent this from happening again.

I actually think that you touched on the crux of the debate issue.

Rubio, nor anyone in the debate hall, would have expected him to be attacked from the intellectual direction that Christie and to some Degree Bush came at him from.

On the issue of Obama, Rubio simply stated that Barrack Obama's ideology is in and of itself flawed and based on a view of America that is antithetical to both our founding and the principles that have lead us to prosperity.  Among the republican electorate this is pretty much common sense or common knowledge.  It was then asserted by Chris Christie that oh no, its not his ideology or his policy prescriptions that have lead us into this mess, its the fact that he didn't run a state.  So with a longer resume Obamacare would have been a good idea?  With two terms running a state into the ground the VA wouldn't have waiting lines?  It's not only nonsense, its nonsense that you would expect from a Democratic candidate.

Why does Christie have to make this kind of argument?  Because if we were talking about a determined ideologue instead of someone who is just inexperienced then he would have more explaining to do for sucking up to his administration and essentially handing him the election in 2012.

As for the Gang of 8 bill, Marco Rubio is in third not 1st place due in large part to that policy decision.  Had he never embarked on that piece of legislation there is a real chance that he would have been the presumptive front runner seen as more reasonable than cruz and more renegade than Bush and that could have precluded a trump candidacy.

No one, to my knowledge, has ever criticized Marco Rubio for not fighting harder to grant citizenship without border security.  What's Christie's functional position from that exchange?  "Hey folks, when you're a governor getting up shoveling snow and getting schools open it teaches you how to fight for Chuck Schumer's values no matter what the American people or the leadership in your own house of representatives says?"  I don't recall seeing that on anyone's bumper sticker.

If someone is yelling at the top of their lungs that 2 plus 2 is 5 it makes sense that you would just repeat that the number 4 calmly while they make fools of themselves.

And Rubio's not at the top of my list, i just know B.S. when i see it.

I sure hope Rubio received a firmware upgrade before this debate

The audience must think this is a Jerry Springer show.
