We should put the bortles experiment in a canon and fire it into the sun
We should just Glock him
Tony Romo would be such a Jags move and set the franchise back 2 more years.  Trade for Garoppolo if they're going to get rid of Bortles but don't bring in an old broken down QB who could never do anything in the playoffs even when he was healthy.

So we trade for Jimmy G who's only played in NE where everyone has success and got hurt in less than 5 games himself? If it's one or the other, I'd keep the draft picks and sign Romo
No

Tony Romo is only getting love because he played for the Dallas Cowboys.  If a 38 year old QB who had a broken collar bone, broken back and broken ribs played for the Cleveland Browns no one would want him.  He is fools gold.
If we dont sign Tony we start a Bad QB

If tony signs and gets hurt we start a bad QB

if tony signs and doesnt get hurt we start a good QB

its really simple to me
If everyone thinks Tony Romo is going to take the Jags to the promised land then why doesn't anyone think he's worth more than a 5th or 6th round pick?  Surely a Super Bowl caliber QB would be worth a lot more than a 5th round pick.

I mean, I get it. I'm a huge Bortles supporter, but I understand the mindset. I just don't think the FO thinks of it that way either.

Cause of the downsides previously mentioned.

Yeah not at all. Theyre running with Bortles.

I just like wasting my time with this fantasy scenario
I think he'd still be playoff caliber QB in the right situation. We still have the draft but as of right now we aren't the right situation. Our defense is good not great. Our O-line and running game is horrible. I don't know why he'd go to Jacksonville.

Because why offer a higher pick when they'd take one that low?

If you can get him for a 5th or 6th round pick then that tells you what 30 GMs think of him at this point in his career.
Best scenario: Romo goes to Houston, Blake finally has a coach who doesn't coddle him and pulls out the consistency we've been longing for and plays at the very least well, then our new teal attack force breaks Romo in our first meeting leaving Houston without a real QB

What are u talking bout? Romo is not a stick figure. All those who bash him. Will have a wake up call.

If goes to any rival. Our qb has won 13 games and lost almost double.
If romo is not the answer that is fine. However if we go into season with bortles.

Expect a great d and a long season.
How much money do we spend on him in guarantees? I'd rather not break the bank on a vet retiring in a few years and be left with nothing.

1. Because if you already have a borderline-contender QB or a developing QB who is already starting games, you don't bench him after he won job. It is such a shock to the confidence of that player that they are basically done with that team. Considering that most GM's and coaches have hand-selected their current QB, they are tied to that player and won't risk jumping ship to Romo who is also not a sure bet because of his injury history.

2. You don't give up something you do not need to. Cowboys HAVE to release him by June. There is no way fiscally they can keep him, and for JJ to continue to improve that team. Why on earth would any team give up anything when they know they will not have to come June. Then on top of that, they can get him for cheaper in June because they can offer a more team friendly contract than his current one. Sure that may give him shorter time to learn an offense, but you would expect a QB with his past history to pick up an offense quickly.

Wont matter who the coach is, Bortles decision making and accuracy is terrible.
We've gone out and spent a fortune on the defense, a defense which already ranked 6th in total defense in 2016. We'll likely select a premier running back in the draft to hopefully remove some pressure from the passing game. We'll also shore up the OL in the draft to better protect the QB. Everything about this team is becoming a Rolls Royce, except the QB. I've seen enough to conclude that Bortles is not ' the guy '. You can put lipstick on a pig, dress him up in a tuxedo, but........he's still a pig. We'll have a Rolls Royce with a Yugo engine if we depend on Bortles in 2017.

Get a new QB in here!
