Not good enough. We need the Colts to lose. Ties count as half a win and half a loss.

Then I will suck it up and root for the Texans.

I had to suck it up to root for the Patriots LOL.

Me too and my buffalo Bills family. They knew that they couldn't win the afc east so they were rooting for the patriots for my jags.
Quote:Would love to see the colts and texans lose out.... Man it feels pretty good to care about the season this late.

That would be pretty amazing considering they play each other next week! :woot:
Quote:I think we are officially out of the running for a wildcard.

As far as the division, we have to win it outright at 8-8.  We cant win a tiebreaker.  And since the Texans and Colts have one more game against each other, one of them will get to at least 7 wins.  So the winner of that game has to lose their remaining games.  Ideally Houston wins that game because one of their remaining games is against us.  So one less game that would be out of our control.
Not only this, but neither the Colts nor the Texans can win more than 3 division games overall.  The Jaguars sadly have three division losses.  If it gets to a tie, division record would be a tiebreaker.

I think we need to root for the Texans when they play the Colts.  The Colts already have three division wins.  The Texans only have two.

The Texans need to beat the Colts, the Titans need to win their last two, and we need to win out.

In other words, a 3 way 8-8 tie can't happen and the Jaguars win the division.  Actually, a 2 way 8-8 tie between the Jaguars and Colts or Texans can't happen and the Jaguars win the division.
What are the chances only Jacksonville finishes with eight wins?

I said this in the afc south board. I root for jags to win all and the texans, colts and titans to lose all no matter what.

Actually, a three way tie at 7-9 would result in us going to the playoffs if Houston beats Indy, both in turn lose to Tennessee, and we beat Houston in week 17. That results in a three way tie that is decided by win percentage in conference games in which we have the advantage.

I said in that thread both Coilts and Texans can't lose out. Pick one or the other next week.

Which NFC game are you picking us to lose?

I don't get it. How do we get past the division tiebreaker and win the division via conference record?

If the Texans beat the colts and we win out... The colts would either need to lose to Miami OR Tennessee, either one would put them at 7-9 at best.

The Titans then would only HAVE to beat Houston.

If Houston beats Indy and loses to both Tennessee/Jacksonville, they are 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the division.

If Indy loses to both Houston/Tennessee and beats Miami, they are 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the division.

If we beat Houston and one of Atlanta/New Orleans, we are 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the division.

The next tiebreaker after division record is games against common opponents in which we are all tied at 4-6. After that the tiebreaker is conference record. Both Houston and Indy would have a conference record of 5-7, while our conference record would be 6-6. Therefore we would make the playoffs.

Wouldn't it be better if the Texans lose to Tennessee than Miami because of the divisions they're in? The Miami game will not affect their division record.

The Titans then would only HAVE to beat Houston. To Set up the 2 way tie at 8-8 with a 3-3 division record apiece... What would happen then?
If the Texans beat the Colts, it would keep both of them at 3 division wins.  If we win out and the Titans beat Houston, the Texans couldn't finish 8-8 under that scenario.  They would finish 7-9.
Jags will need Tennessee to beat Indy or Houston, if not both. There is no scenario where Tennessee loses both of those games and the Jags get in.

That is what I expect, unfortunately. The Titans got blown out yesterday. But any given Sunday, so we can still dream.
