Matt Prater was cut many times and he's the best long range kicker in NFL history 50 yards plus percentage wise.....you still need a kicker to be consistent. The Jags have never adapted quick enough. Gus Bradley is a terrible head coach and Myers is a terrible kicker.

I'm not sure why the Dolphins cut Matt Prater in 2007.   But in 2006 as an UDRFA,   Matt Prater was impressive in the off-season and summer with the Lions.  Prater had no chance of winning a roster spot though because Jason Hanson was the Lions Kicker.  But many years later,  the favorable impression Prater made that summer led to him being signed by the Lions after week # 5 last season.   At a time that the Lions had a worse kicking situation than the Jaguars currently do.

I was mad when the Broncos cut Matt Prater in favor of Brandon McManus. The previous season, Prater was nearly perfect. McManus was terrible. The Broncos limited McManus to kickoffs and signed Connor Barth for scoring kicks. Maybe if the Lions had not signed Prater, the Broncos would have brought him back. Now Barth is out of a job because McManus is having a great season. Does anybody want him?

I find it hard to believe there are no better kickers out there. When did we encounter a kicker shortage?? Pittsburgh went through like 10 kickers, gave up a 6th round pick, cut that kicker, and picked one up off the street who is 1000 times better than Myers. Don't tell me better options aren't out there.

Barth Bag played against us with the Bucs.
never mind

Four kickers. I bet they want their 6th round pick back after literally giving up on Josh Scobee against the Ravens.

The kicker shortage problem is partly caused by that thing called injured reserve. Remember when Nick Folk got hurt in our game? That injury put him on IR. Matt Prater also is on IR now. Then there are teams who had to replace struggling kickers such as the Buccaneers. We aren't the only team with a major kicking problem.

Duh, I forgot that.

Quote:Lol, if i wasnt a fan, i wouldnt be here. This shows im die hard. We have an inept coaching staff. No other team would kept Myers after what he did.

That's a Caldwell problem not a Gus problem.
Myers may well shake this season off and go on to a successful career. Apparently the second miss was a bad snap/hold, but I'm sure the board geniuses know exactly why all those PATs were missed, having seen the game film and all.

He's still on the roster because he has the leg to be good, plus they've auditioned already. Help is not on the way, no reason to cut Myers now.

Matt Prater isn't on IR at this time.   You saw him successfully make 3 FGs six nights ago.

I probably got him mixed up with someone else.
jason myers has the highest field goal percentage of any kicker in team history

Caldwell isn't on the hot seat. Once you realize that, it's not hard to understand what's going on here.
Go back and watch Jaguar Summer from 2004.

They were debating on whether to cut Scobee or not. Dude wasn't money early but, would hit a game winner in his prime.

Then 6 years later he was a Pro Bowl snub despite kicking his name into the franchise record book.

I think what's going on here is impatient fans who are tired of watching missed PAT and FG attempts forget kickers can be late bloomers like anyone else. What if Jason Myers becomes the next Brandon McManus? The possibility of that saying, "What a difference a year makes," may apply to Myers, who could then be as accurate as McManus in 2016. That is probably why Dave Caldwell does not want to give up on him as quickly as all of the other teams with struggling kickers, who obviously had more choices to pick from.

If leg strength is the only reason we picked Myers over Scobee, he should be a kickoff specialist.

Mike Hollis still in town? He would be better than Myers at this point. And I'm only half kidding. I had high hopes for Jason. Maybe he'll shake off this season and going forward be the best we've ever had. A girl can dream.

Nice to meet another woman on the board that is dominated by men. How are you doing?

The last time I read anything about Mike Hollis, the Bills cut him. I assumed he retired after that because nobody said anything about him again. But man, it would be so awesome to bring him in as a special teams coach if his leg is done.
Mike Hollis 80% field goal

Jason Myers 85%

Myers has not been as bad as some make him out to be. He needs to shore up the extra point kicks or he'll be gone but I expect him back next year.

So why didn't Mike Hollis stay in Jacksonville?
