Quote:The point is you can find another Jason Myers. Someone that has already graduated, that the NFL missed for some reason.

Kickers tend to improve after college.

Examples are Graham Gano and Kai Forbath. Both were cut as rookies and have later gone on to be productive for new teams.

So you're saying we should find a young kicker who's been with an NFL team briefly and shown promise but has some flaws that led to people dismissing them prematurely, and attempt to address those flaws in the hope that they'll overcome them and become a great kicker for us?

I can think of one guy who fits the bill perfectly. Great on kickoffs, mostly great on field goals after some early season wobbles, just has an anomalously bad number on XPs that's slightly overinflated anyway and is clearly fixable given his field goal successes. Maybe we should sign him?
We don't wanna hurt Jason's feelings by cutting him..

The problems can't be fixed overnight. We have to wait it out the last four weeks to see if he makes a big improvement on the 23 YL.

I would not be opposed to bringing two kickers to training camp next year
Quote:Myers may well shake this season off and go on to a successful career. Apparently the second miss was a bad snap/hold, but I'm sure the board geniuses know exactly why all those PATs were missed, having seen the game film and all.

He's still on the roster because he has the leg to be good, plus they've auditioned already. Help is not on the way, no reason to cut Myers now.

I agree with this. The last kicker that might possibly be able to replace Myers has already signed elsewhere, so at this point their best option is to let Myers develop as much as possible. If Myers can work on making his 33-yard FGs automatic this offseason, suddenly he's a great Kicker. I hope they give him a shot to compete next year. I'm not saying go into the season naming him the guy, but pick up an undrafted kicker or two, and a cheap vet or two, and let them all compete. I won't be surprised if Myers gets it figured out and wins the job, but if not they'll have found someone better.

Quote:6 extra points?! What an inept franchise. Khan could give a crap about winning with Myers and Gus here. He should be running a circus, not an NFL franchise.

All this rage when there's only four games left and we're already out of the Playoffs?

Quote:So why didn't Mike Hollis stay in Jacksonville?

Hollis had a weak leg. His kickoffs typically hit between the 5 and 10 yardline, and he wasn't all that useful beyond about 52 yards on FGs. We've already seen Myers kicker game winners from 53 and 58 yards.

Well duh. And we'll wait it out more than the last four weeks. There's no point cutting him after the season - you keep him on the roster and help him sort things out over the offseason. Because it costs nothing, and he could still be good if he gets over the PAT issue.

And when was the last time we didn't have two kickers in training camp? As we saw last year, there's definitely real competition when we bring in a kicker. That shouldn't be any different this time round.
I hope Meyers is gone very soon. I rather have a very very reliable kicker who drills everything under 45 and a specialist who can handle kickoffs.

Bortles just needs to push for the 4 down offense. Less of a need for a kicker or punter...
Meyers big downfall right now is XP's 23/29, 79%. I think his confidence is a bit shaken. Myers has a huge leg. I am not in the cut him now boat.  There's nothing out there worth picking up

You want to eat up a roster spot with a kickoff specialist? Really? In a day and age where most teams don't waste a roster spot on a 3rd QB even.
Quote:Tom Coughlin gave up on Hayden Epstein. Maybe he should have been a punter.

When did we have the other players?
Seriously, as obnoxious as you can be in some of your responses, it's amazing to me that you somehow don't understand how to use Google.  Did someone block it on your computer or something?

I'm still trying to figure out why they keep trying the left hash, then reverting back to the middle.  He's missed from both angles, so what's next?  The right hash?  When he misses there, then what?   I get having your confidence rattled, but at some point the team has to decide they can't afford to keep a player who has never been anything better than average throughout his career in college and now the NFL.  It's not like Myers was lighting it up in college.
Quote:Lol, if i wasnt a fan, i wouldnt be here. This shows im die hard. We have an inept coaching staff. No other team would kept Myers after what he did.

This is true.

Standing backwards and using his heel?
Scobee is better, but I guess bringing him back would be admitting you were wrong

We would not have been better with Scobee this season.
Quote:We would not have been better with Scobee this season.
Last game would've been tied, we end with a win. The only area Myers is better than Scobee is kickoffs and a cheaper contract. When you're letting Mariota run for 85 yd TD, field position doesn't matter.
My question with Meyers, is he missing these short PAT attempts in practice or just in game?

If it's in practice then spend the offseason hitting those and he's gold. As far as fgs goes he's actually been very accurate.

If it's only in game then it's just mental, build up some confidence and again, he'll be good.

That said, definitely bring someone in to compete
Myers is inaccurate, anticlutch, and the most hated Jag outside of Bradley. To compare him to Scobee, who should be in the Pride, is truly asinine. The reason we took Myers (worst special teamer since Turk) over Scobee is draft position. Caldwell knew games would be close and decided he'd rather lose close games than be in the playoffs. The reason he is still on the team is to help tank. We could easily find a better kicker
