So...
There's a lot of surprises. I didn't spoil anything.
Is this Star Wars, just a modern one of the 1977 Star Wars, A New Hope.   Ren is female version of Luke (maybe Luke's daughter and her father, Luke, has turned to the dark side), Poe is Han Solo, Kylo is Darth Vader.

Man, you are just the worst.

That is what everyone is saying...that this movie is just basically a remake of A New Hope. Also that it is a spit in the face of fans of the original trilogy.

Just got out of the 7pm show.

The movie you've been waiting for this is.

WOW

Happy. Place.

Spoiler - no extras after the credits. None needed.
Just got out myself, definitely not a remake of a new hope, go see it they nailed it!

So don't come to this thread if you haven't seen the movie and don't want it spoiled, honestly don't even get on the internet if you don't want spoilers but oh well you're here.

I loved it, thought the play on Han and Lea's kid Ben being Kylo Ren was perfect, and it makes since. I wonder if there is a thing with the offspring of force sensitive kids being more likely to go to the dark side and that's why the Jedi where supposed to abstain from love and marriage.

The way they sent of Han was perfect also, having his son kill him kind of solidifies him as a bad guy, I don't think the story is going to arc around how to save Kylo Ren it's how to stop him.

I read a while ago that Snook might be the ultimate puppet master from the start, my bet is he's a small creature like Yoda size and that's why the holograms exaggerate him so much bigger than life.

I REALLY like the Fin character, thought it was interesting how they talked about him being abducted as a child and trained only to be a storm trooper, also really liked Poe's character. It's going to suck waiting another year and half for the sequel.

Return of the Jedi was truly a remake of A New Hope, yet it's some folks' favorite. Go figure.

I'd put this right near or maybe with Empire as my favorite.

All I know is I'll be seeing it again. Soon.
I can't complain about a single thing they did. They took it all back to it's roots.

The Universe felt "real" and alive again.

The only CGI I noticed were the slimming down of Luke and Leia. LOL

yea seriously less CGI maybe the creatures on the smuggling vessel

han was on?
It was perfect. Get George out of it and finally bring focus back to the characters. New cast is phenomenal, which made me kind of want to accelerate killing all the old guard....C3P0 needs to go.
In the sequel to this current movie, will there be a Battle on Hoth, with at-at and snow speeders.  Rey goes to a jungle planet to train to become a full Jedi master from an old Jedi master.  Will Po get frozen and carbonized and Rey leaves before she is fully trained to go to save him. Then there is a classic light saber battle between Rey and Kylo.  Rey gets her hand cut off by Kylo's light saber. Kylo says to Rey, "Rey, I am your cousin"

You know what? The characters and writing were so enjoyable that I'd be completely OK with that.
Nope, this was the whole same story line done over again. Even the killing of Solo was merely the Obi-Wan death scene. Nothing about this movie was original enough to differentiate it from a previous story line. Pretty film, disappointing story.

Sure there's reaccuring themes but I think this film is going deeper than the first three I loved it. We have the knights of ren, snook who is probably the oldest sith mentioned by senator palpatine in episode ii, jedi temples, a resurgence of the republic only to see their entire system destroyed in one shot, the battle luke is going to face. Loved the new characters we just got a small taste of the expanded universe and it has me wanting more.
Was pretty decent kind of what i expected.  Leia seemed to struggle through every line.  Han was good in small doses, Chewy the robots and the new characters were all pretty good.  Wasn't a big fan of Ren and he was a pretty weak villian IMO

Also didn't like how Jedi training is just picking up a lightsaber.  Or how this apparently legendary spaceship ends up in a junk yard that just happens to be in the middle of where the action starts.

They did a great job of capturing the original trilogy with set design and use of costumes.  Did seem alot like A new hope,  I did like the former storm trooper angle.  I just can't get behind a guy who has been a trained sith for sometime being on an equal fighting surface with two people who have used a lightsaber one time.

side note  Kylo Ren is definitely a slytherin

Agree, though I could handle Finn using the saber since it was clear that stormies get training with melee weapons. The girl, though, was either a case of plot hole (the same with the Leia hug...they didn't know each other) or Ren is just a weak Sith. Strength in the Force doesn't mean you start at a Master level like that. I know they are constrained by the limited number of hours for the movies, but everything just moves too fast. It feels rushed.

Death Star right down to how it's destroyed and the laser firing sequence, Tattoine, Hoth, Endor, Trench Run, Obi Wan/Han Death Scene, Jawas, Family drama, Cantina scene, overly large holographic communications, Darth Vader mask/voice modulator similarities, BB8 battle plans/map similarity (just needed a Poe hologram), all too much like 4 and 5 for my comfort.

Ren isn't a trained sith yet he was in the midst of jedi training when snook seduced him to the dark side, snook says at the end bring me Ren I must complete his training.

I think Rey is supposed to be a rare force sensitive probably even more so than Luke which is why at the start of the figbt she's kind of just swinging the thing around, them Ren makes the force comment and she goes semi-jedish in skill but keep in mind at that point Ren had been shot by Chewy, sliced a couple times by Fin and was losing blood like crazy. If not for the earth breaking up he wasn't going to make it through the 2nd battle with Rey.

also notice everyone else Den confronted he could use the dark side but not against Rey which leveled the playing field. He couldn't read her, he couldn't manipulate her, heck she even out forced him for the saber in the first place!
