Hes not as good as he was last year. I dont know whats up with him. I though he was our best corner as well
McCray took a step back early in the season. He hasn't played as well and lost his spot.

But, I'm sure if he was out there we'd suddenly have a pass rush, he'd shut down Hopkins, Bortles wouldn't throw pick six's, Julius Thomas would know his routes and we'd have a half dozen injured players back to full health.

Not having McCray out there is not the issue.

cmon Gus, McCray is better than what we have seen at the right corner.
I think his is misusing our prayers. It's as if he doesn't know what he's doing

what makes you say he took a step back? He got hurt in the pre season and wasn comming off an injuury the last pre season game where he didnt look that good. He hasnt played much in the regular season. He is healthy now though as i see him flying around on special teams

There was an article about his demotion at Jacksonville.com weeks ago (O'Halloran I think) and Bradley addressed it clearly in a presser when asked.  He lost his spot because he was not playing well. I don't see what the big deal is.  This stuff happens. It was even discussed pretty thoroughly here with several folks wondering why he looked "off."

If House keeps getting beat, then I hope he gets a crack at it, but he didn't look himself vs Miami when he was out there for 63 snaps. I'm not just making this stuff up. I'm re-counting facts.
Our defense and our passing defense are each ranked higher than they finished last year.

Seems like a pretty pointless complaint to me.
Word in the Locker room is McCray is lactose intolerant and can't join in the Ice Cream celebration before and after games.  Gus does not trust a man who can't eat ice cream so put him on the bench.

He was clearly our best corner last year even to the point he was shutting down Dez Bryant and they made him switch sides to get away from him. Now all of a sudden he's a special teamer who can't play. Yeah right. Gus just isn't a good coach. Maybe if management would treat him like he's doing McCray and demote him we'd be winning. Talk about accountability, they let Gus own up to nothing and keep his status as head coach which he should've loss long time ago.
Quote:Can't think of a single play Colvin has ever made.

He has two sacks this year.

The defense is ranked 28th against the pass, House is ranked 21st according to Football Outsiders (or rather the Jaguars against WR#1 which is usually House),

23rd against WR2, 20th against other WR - Gratz 29th against TE, 30th against RB - LBs?

Quote:I have to say yes,.  We are at the bottom of almost every statistical category.  We make mediocre QB's look like all pro's and we can't create a turnover to save our lives.  I say this is worst then the 95 expansion defense.  Just pathetic across the board.

The philosophy that Gus is preaching is flawed. There is a reason Seattle is the ONLY current team to effectively use a fairly vanilla non-blitzing 3 deep safety scheme and dominate the league as defensive-minded team. You need some great players that perfectly fit that system, and not too many of those players exist (Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas, etc.). The last team with such system was probably Tampa Bay, and before that I could not even name a like successful simple defensive system in the 90's. To ever succeed with that scheme, you HAVE to have some very good pass rushers (like Seattle has) or generational talent like that Tampa team - prime Warren Sapp.

Most recent-era effective defensive teams were much more aggressive, trying the force the issue with blitzing packages, a la Baltimore, Steelers, early Patriots, Giants superbowl runs, etc. Yes, you still need some playmakers, but the team utilize scheme to play up players strengths and to dictate what they want their opponent to do.

We do NOT do that. In today's age with quick offenses and technology to quickly and easily look through tape, formations, and tendencies, it crazy to to think that the Jags will be able to draft another group of players with that talent level and succeed. I was hoping that part of the philosophy was coaching up their players to fit the scheme, but after 3 years it is obvious they do not know how to coach up a pass rusher or coverage LB.

On top of that, what they should have down was OVER-invest in pass-rushers because of how much of a game changer and need they are, instead of going all in on basically 1 player every year (J. Allen, C. Clemons, and now D. Fowler.)
It is obvious the plan is a good offense covers for your defense and gives you a decent margin of error.  With the league favoring offense it makes sense to target that area to build.  What doesn't help is having a completely new offense with inexperienced players at just about every position.

This defense is so simple that even rookies and career backups can put up big numbers on it.

It's ridiculous, I think the play making is probably it I mentioned it in a thread earlier in the year, he doesn't get many int or sacks.

However is shutting down the oppositions lead play maker not play making itself?
1st off.  I like McCray and wish he'd be on the field more to see if he really has lost a step, or isn't performing well anymore...

2nd off, House had a very good game besides the first TD to Hopkins...  Can't blame him for the fact that our D plays zone and rarely pressures the QB.

I mentioned this in another thread, but if you rewatch Hopkins' send TD, he pushed off and that's how he got separation from House.  That TD should have been called back for offensive pass interference.
They are frustrating to watch.  It feels like they have a hard time getting off the field.  But they aren't the worst D in our history.  Of course, at this rate, they may be.  After all, it's only week 6.  Give Bradley time...

At the end of the day, you MUST pressure the QB, any way you can.  If you can get consistent pressure by rushing 4, then great.  But if you are not getting pressure with 4, you MUST blitz on most downs to get the QB out of rhythm.  If you don't want to do that, get ready for alot of ice cream socials.

It's hard to watch a CB just being destroyed and realizing they aren't going to give him any help. But it's not just the pass. Run or pass they're not stopping or even slowing down anything.

As of now, the Jaguars have the worst point differential in the league at -63.

Quote:The scheme is the problem.

We have an extra player in the box (SS) to stop the run in a league with rules that favor the passing game.

We have one less player in the secondary playing that idiotic single high scheme so teams can eat up large chunks at a time.

We have a defensive scheme designed to stop the run in a passing league. That's like wearing hiking boots to the beach-it's just plain stupid.

Scheme, players, and definitely coaching.
Quote:The goal in the NFL is to outscore your opponents. The teams at the end of the year with the best win/loss records TYPICALLY have the best scoring differential. Now you're about to see why Gus Bradley is a joke and why we aren't improving.......

Baconator and the people pointing to Bortles win/loss record are a joke. Peyton Manning/Aaron Rodgers led teams averaged 18-19 ppg defensively opponents PPG throughout their careers. Gus has made our defense WORSE.

Defense is what wins championships.

But Gus is a defensive minded coach.  So, wait, I mean, nvm Wallbash
