This guy does stink.  Constantly missing tackles

Am I becoming a Cyprien apologist?  I guess!

I wouldn't go so far as say he stinks.  He has actually been having a quietly good season.  And then we traveled to Tampa Bay.  He played pretty bad last Sunday.  I won't deny that.  But he was not the only player on the D that stunk on Sunday...

I hope Cyp bounces back this week and for the remainder of the season.
Quote:Our number 1 pick was supposed to help this.

Ideally, if we had Fowler and Marks healthy, this group would be playing a lot better.
regrettably, we don't live in an ideal world. With both of these players having now suffered what could potentially be career altering injuries, we'll be needing that first pick to shore up our defense for next season.

Quote:If we were ok with just a good run stuffer, red bryant would've been perfectly fine.

Wrong. Bryant was awful. Odrick was signed to play that position.
It's Cyprien's fault.  No, it's Odrick's fault.  No, it's this other guy's fault.  We should never have signed/drafted fill-in-the-blank.

You guys, I'm telling you, it isn't this guy, or that guy.   We have enough talent to do a lot better.   They just make too many mental errors.  The whole team.    A mistake on almost every single play.   It's an 11 man game.   If everyone did their part on every play, we would have a lot more success.   Instead, we take the wrong gap on defense, or fail to cover someone, or block the wrong guy on offense, or our offensive line fails to pick up a simple stunt by the opposing defensive line.

I remember Don Shula's teams, and they didn't have overwhelming talent, but what they did have was mental discipline.   They won games because they eliminated their mistakes.

In year one, when we had so many rookies, including at one point an all rookie secondary, it was easy to say,  when we get more experience and eliminate the rookie mistakes we will be better.   But here it is year 3, and after every game it's the same thing.   If only we could eliminate these mental errors.

If we can't play more fundamentally sound, error free football, then it's time for the coaching staff to take the blame.   Not this player, or that player.

I've been blaming Gus, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's the talent level, especially along the defensive line. I mean, maybe having Marks back will spark up a pass rush. We just don't have the horses to rush the passer. Poz misses one game, and the run defense goes to crap. Alualu, Branch, and Clemons just can't win one on ones. And the secondary can't cover for 10 seconds. Hopefully, they show up today with marks and Poz being back

This comes down to coaching.

You play like you practice.  If you're taught correctly, practice the skills you've been taught, then it becomes instinctive and everyone is on the same page.
Playcalling and Personnel... We keep playing players thats not getting the job done! And we dont blitz enough!
Pass rush.
Cant stop anybody on third and LONG that is the problem. SICK OF IT.
See what telling you. Third and Long goal.........TD. Probably diff in this game.
As a fan, it does seem like other teams have a ridiculously easy time converting 3 downs (long, short, it don't matter) against us. It just seems so easy to lob a pass out there and invariably the receiver is wide open and picks up an easy 1st down. We are way too soft on our coverage, and more often than not get little or no pressure on the quarterback. When we do get pressure... my gosh, it seems like grounds for declaring a celebration!

While all these things are true, they are not the reason our defense stinks; the reason is due to poor hygiene practice among the defensive players.

3rd down and long conversions are because the Jags have no pass rush which is because we don't have any good pass rushers.
The defense lacks any talent, couple that with poor coaching, and you have the issue.

Pass rush.
Remember the coach. That is the reason we sux
Precisely. The offense is somewhat better because the emphasis in the draft has been placed on that side of the ball. Hopefully next year we have a defensive heavy draft. The draft is were you are going to get your top end guys. Guys like JJ Watt, Patrick Peterson and Earl Thomas don't usually hit free agency. You have to draft those guy.

The defense stinks because we play a soft zone behind zero pressure. Then we supplement that with poor run defense.
Well, there was less soft zone this game and more man... Problem was that the corners just kept getting beat, specifically House.  The pass rush was a little better because they had a little time, but it still wasn't good.

Why was Odrick so mad at the end of the one play when he wasn't even on the field during the play?  Did he run out on the field??
