Quote:Stanford DL Solomon Thomas:
6025, 273
40-4.69
Bench-30
Vertical-35"
Broad-126"
3-Cone-6.95
S.Shuttle-4.28
He met my expectations with those numbers, very good.
Like I said in the other Thomas thread the other day, at this point he is my top choice at 4. Him, Adams, Lattimore, Allen are all guys I'd be happy with but watching Solomon tape he has won me over the past few weeks.
Amazing first step and pass rush moves especially when rushing from the inside, he's a nightmare for guards if left 1vs1. Great motor, great ability in recognizing screen plays and good vs the run.
I wish I could have seen more of rushing from the outside, he looks so much more effective on the inside.
Anyway I'm on board with him at 4.
Can you imagine that there are people who watched Thomas today and are still going to want to come out of this draft with a running back as our top draftee...

I don't know about that. I think that for the most part that the thought about RB will be if Both Thomas and Garret are gone at 4. I think Jonathan Allen's designation as a PASS RUSHER died somewhere between the 5.00 40 and the 7.5 3 cone. I know drills aren't everything, but to me he screams average starting 3 technique not edge player.

The same will most likely be said tomorrow after Adams and Lattimore perform too.
The only way we take an RB is in a trade back.
Yep. Im on the Thomas train.

Welcome aboard!
Matt Miller just said there is a lot of concern with Jon Allen and his shoulders. Feeling is he'll drop to the 12-17 range.
Which pretty much makes Thomas Dline #1 after Myles. So will Thomas make it to us at #4?
Hard to say if Thomas is there or not. Part of me is thinking that the 3 picks before us will be Garrett, a QB, and Thomas.

I have no idea what the niners are going to do. Do they like a QB? If not, are they going to take a dlineman for the 3rd year in a row and if not what are they going to take.
And if we make it past them chicago is in a similar position. Theyre rumored to be a big player for Mile Glennon so idk if they would still do a QB at 3, after that its the same questions.

Do you think Thomas fits as a 3-4 DL?
I'm not sure I do.
Were he heavier, yeah. But I'm not sure I'd want to add too much weight to him.
Quote:I might be the only 1 that has Garrett in my outside my top 5.
Allen
Fournette
Hooker
Adams
Thomas
Watson
Garrett
Trubisky
Cook
Mixon
Go ahead, make fun of me. I don't mind.
You're the only one that has Garrett outside the top two that I've seen.

Both of them need a DE as well so it really wouldn't be crazy if they stayed in their spot and took Thomas. I think one of them will end up taking a QB but not both.
While Thomas had an amazing combine I still feel some of y'all are severely overrating him in terms of draft position. Thomas is still a "tweener" and a man without a true position. Is he a DT? If so he's slightly undersized. Is he a DE? If so he doesn't have that "bend" you want to see around the edge. Aaron Donald had one of rhe best workouts ever as a lineman and still couldn't crack the top 5. The NFL is about as traditional as it comes and it doesn't look favorably on tweener types, especially in the top 5.

He can play edge or 3-tech, depending on the formation and down. Teams are kicking their own butts not drafting Donald.
Thomas also has issues in pursuit. I can't count how many times a QB merely side stepped to completely dodge him or he couldn't bring them down. Slipped right through him.

6.95 in the three cone. He can bend. His workout wasn't good. It was freakish.
He can play strong side end.

Maybe he can at the next level? Maybe not. That's why he gets the tweener label.

He can play edge rusher completely fine. If teams pass on him thinking he can't then they are stupid and their draft analysis process is extremely flawed. Thomas CAN bend and I've seen him do it several times in a game against tackles, and his 3 cone time backs it up. Go back and watch the tape, if you don't feel like it I can post it for you. Thomas could have easily been a pure edge rusher at Stanford but they used him inside because that's how he could best help his team.

So?
