^They need to tighten up the o-line for sure. If you're taking a shot at his toughness or suggesting he's injury prone, I think you're misguided.

Zach is a decent backup. Lots of fans here think he should be the starter.... (I'm not one of those fans)

Beanpole running qbs don't last.

He's not run very much at all. He was hurt in the pocket by a questionable shot to the knees.

What's the overall feeling about MM from the fans?
I know it's only 5 games in for you guys, but I was just wondering.

A handful of Mett fans that think he should be starting ahead of MM, but most are supportive of MM and are optimistic that he's the right guy long term. Titans fans are mostly lunch pail, hard working people and appreciate the same in the players. We like guys like Steve McNair. We're tired of the pansies (VY) and thugs (guys like Pacman and Britt) that we've picked up in recent drafts. Locker was a lunch pail guy, just couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with a shotgun. We're hoping MM is the right combination of a good guy and a good player.

I just don't know if your have a lunch pail type qb in MM...
Spread option qbs are pretty gimmicky

Bortles just had a pretty bad game against the Texans, but it's still worth a look to see how both qbs are doing lately. To get a slightly bigger picture of where they are right now, let's look at their totals over their past two games...
Blake Bortles - 53 of 86 (61.6%) for 634 yards (7.4 YPA), 7 TDs and 4 INTs for a 91.9 qb rating with 1 fumble, 0 lost
Marcus Mariota - 42 of 65 (64.6%) for 406 yards (6.2 YPA), 1 TD and 3 INTs for a 67.9 qb rating with 2 fumbles, 2 lost

Mariota will be fine. I've seen enough from him to know he can be a decent passer.
As much as I don't want him to pan out, he'll be okay.

Time will tell.
I prefer a blue collar, tough, pocket passer like BB5.
I look at MM as a read option qb.
His ceiling is Russell Wilson. His floor is rg3...
He'll probably wind up somewhere near Colin kaepernick.
Now, that means he'll have a couple really good years. But I think like every read option qb, he'll be figured out...

Yep. Chill everyone.
All it takes is a little game tape.
Be thankful we got Bortles.

MM out this week and Zach Mettenberger will start against the Falcons.

Quote:They were just recently saying he'd probably play. This is sad. Bortles would have toughed it out.How can you say Bortles would have toughed it out? Are you that insecure about the Jags QB situation that you have to take every opportunity to slight Mariota? He's shown his toughness, he's played through similar injuries in college and didn't miss a snap against the Dolphins when he was severely limited. He has a worse grade sprain than the one suffered by Tyrod Taylor who will miss his 2nd consecutive game. It doesn't make sense to risk a serious injury in a developmental season anyway.

Mariota has hardly been a gimmick QB and has only ran the ball 10 times this season, less than Bortles. Sure he has the dynamic ability to run the read-option is dangerous in the open field, but he has done most of his damage (dating even back to college) from the pocket and with his arm. I think its more accurate to say that he is a pocket passer who posses the elite athleticism to be a threat running the ball and in the read-option.

Errr...
You caught that. I deleted it seconds after posting because I read that Mariota wanted to play but their coaches wouldn't let him.

All it takes is a set of working eyes to see MM isn't going to be very good.

I don't agree. I'm not anointing him. But I saw him play the bills pretty well.

So far he's shown what I expected, flashed early and has steadily declined since then as the titans gameplan to make up for his deficiencies has become clear. I don't see him ever being a truly elite guy, but given years of steady development he could be another Chad Pennington. Physically limited but with enough experience under his belt to have limited success.
I can't see him succeeding in a division with Bortles and Luck.
