Quote:He got very luck on that 50 yard TD to Walker, but was overall very impressive. Showed tremendous poise going through his progressions and had good accuracy in the pocket even with defenders right in his face.
Yeah that first TD was 100% lucky

That final drive to win the game was not on the QB either... Just sayin'...
What kills me is how much passion and heart the tacks played with under Mularkey... I'm jealous of your terrible Head Coach, lol. Not saying that the Jaguars play without passion and heart, but it seems like the tacks played with better precision today than we did.

Regardless. 4 TD and 0 INT is a pretty damn good day.
I'd still bet money that Mularkey isn't the HC after the season is over.
Quote:They are playing inspired, but I doubt Mularkey has all that much to do with it. Their players know how close to being out of this league they are, and they're fighting for their jobs. Watching their cut-ups, what stood out was their defense, in particular their ability to create turnovers, and their running game. Mariota was able to hand off for the most part while passing when he had to. His game remains the same. He's got that natural, quick release and a fairly accurate short game with occasional passes that leave you scratching your head, but no real deep game whatsoever. Those darts of his have to be scary from an offensive perspective because they are so low to the ground. It looks more like he's throwing darts at a board than throwing a football, and I have to wonder just how long he can keep that up and remain successful.
The Jaguars face the Titans twice over the next several weeks. If they can handle the Titans running game like they did the Jets, I doubt the Titans stand much of a chance. Offensively Bortles will need to be on top of his game as far as not throwing INTs. If the Titans fail to get turnovers they're not winning games.
I'd much rather have the qb that throws the ball a little short than the one who throws it over their intended targets head (luck)
Coming off 4 turnovers yesterday....the Jags are becoming the turn-a-matics of the league.
You don't win games that way.
SMH
What's funny is that for all the 'low dangerous throws' and 'dink and dunking' mariota does, he still averages a full yard more per attempt (8 vs 7 ypa) compared to bortles and completes nearly 10% more of his passes (65% vs 56%). Bortles has more success on the deep ball, but mariota is better in the short and intermediate passes from just about everywhere on the field. Most importantly mariota is better in the red zone and making good decisions with his throws.
Mariota threw up and absolute duck that got batted in the air and went for a long TD....just an atrocious throw.

And Bortles had another easy pick 6 dropped by Revis. Sometimes QBs and players get lucky, but that doesn't take away from the rest of his game. Take away that lucky TD and he still threw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs on over 70% completion rate. Not bad for someone just making their 6th career start.

You mean the best corner in the game and a future HOFer *almost* had an interception...
Not sure what that has to do with Mariota pop-gunning a wounded duck up to three members of a bad Saints secondary...whatever makes you feel better I guess.

The point is that sometimes players catch breaks. But it happens to everyone, so to try and discredit his performance because of that one play is stupid.

Weak arm, poor-decision making, teenage girl body type. He's not long for this league.
I can see him being an okay Arena-leaguer.

Oh you're just trying to troll, carry on.

No trolling. He fits the exact mold of what the AFL QBs look like.
You can get by with more of those atrocious ducks throws because there are so many more possessions. Also the field is so much smaller it lends itself to Marcus' poor arm strength.

Arm strength only means so much in the NFL. Look at Kaepernick, he probably has the strongest arm in the NFL and he got benched for Gabbert (another guy with a strong arm). Regardless, Mariota has been much more effective than Bortles (8 YPA vs 7) and much more accurate (65% vs 56%). How do you explain that?

Well let's look at the only number that matters pertaining to your question, air yards. Blake is #2 in the league in lowest "checkdown" %, Marcus comes in at #21. Bortles yac % is 28, Mariota is nearly 40%. Figure a scholar such as yourself would have those figures to back your claims, unless you do and just choose to ignore them.

Can you link your sources? Besides, YAC is a mark of a good on time throw that allows receivers to make a play after the ball is in their hands. You forgot that Hurns in 34th in the leauge in YAC, but the Titans best YAC player Wright is 68th, and he didn't even play against the Saints. So its not like he is dumping the ball off to good playmakers and letting them do work, he is putting bad to mediocre players into a position to be successful. Its what franchise QBs do, they elevate the play of players around them.
