He couldn't shed blocks at Florida he's a one trick pony speed and that's it. Now you've got a bum knee and your entire game was speed were lucky if he can be a role player at all here.
Quote:I'm not convinced DC is garbage.  Gene Smiff clearly was.  I think DC has gotten better each year as a GM (althought I'm not saying he isn't a problem).  However, when the HC sets the bar so low for the players because he commends them for sucking, I'm not sure what we can expect.  Low expectations breed low performances.

This.

Gene Smith was terrible, but there are still several good players left in the NFL from Gene Smith. Caldwell's last two drafts have been lauded by the draft pundits. Frequently players are what the coaching staff makes of them. Belichick can take some journeyman and make him into a key starter.

Young guys should get better as they gain experience and through coaching. Where is the year to year improvement on this team? Allen Robinson wasn't a drop machine last year. Pasztor went from a decent starting RT to being cut. McCray apparently has declined. Is Colvin any better than he was at the end of last season? Telvin?

The problem is Bradley.

This time Khan, find a guy who was previously successful as an NFL head coach, not the coordinator with no head coaching experience or the guy who failed in Buffalo.

Quote:But I haven't seen Dave draft a 3rd round punter yet, so he gets the tie breaker until further notice.

Just to build on this, Shack took a punter in the 4th round in his 5th draft, and Gene took a punter in the 3rd round in his 4th draft. Seeing as Dave didn't take a punter in the 2nd round of his 3rd draft, I'm prepared to name Dave the best GM this team has had in over a decade.

The guy's track record is not good. I posted this on another forum

Let's look at this guy's track record:

2013:
Luke Joeckel: Mediocre to garbage
Johnathan Cyprien: Mediocre to garbage
Dwayne Gratz: Mediocre to garbage
Ace Sanders: Cut
Denard Robinson: Good player
Jeremy Harris: Cut
Demetrius McCray: Aight, but apparently can't keep his spot over Gratz now

Got rid of Eugene Monroe, Daryl Smith, Brandon Marshall, and Justin Forsett, all players who went on to do just fine or even great elsewhere and that we REALLY use right now. And replaces them with at best mediocrity. At worst trash. Only free agent signing he brought in that was worth a damn was Sen'Derrick Marks and he basically got lucky there.

2014:
Bortles: Garbage
Lee: Constantly hurt and when he is on the field can't catch a freaking pass
Robinson: Looked good for a second and now that the pressure is on he is trash
Linder: Good player at worst, Stud at best
Colvin: Overhyped and has looked average or worst so far
Smith: Good player, looks like he may become a stud
Smith: Garbage, will be cut by next year
Bowanko: Average
Johnson: Cut

All his free agent signings last year were duds. Beadles sucks and is not worth anywhere near his money, he got dupe by Alex Mack offering him a contract like that that he just used to get his money from the Browns, Dekoda Watson cut in that same year, Ziggy Hood has done his job but whatever. And of course we know the saga of Toby out bellcow.

2015:
Fowler: Out for the season, Florida DE, I think he has very high bustibility anyway
Yeldon: Alabama running back, at least he looked decent today but my confidence has never been high in him, hope he proves me wrong
Cann: Can't be out Beadles
Sample: I have high hopes in him at least
Greene: Our most consistent receiver which says more about the trash we have than the pick itself
Bennett: Maybe a steal
Koyack/Sterling: Practice squad

And he really went out of his mind this year and paid a bunch of career backups starter money. House looks like trash, Skuta looks decent, Odrick...who knows, and of course our big marquee signing Julius Thomas is hurt like always.

This is the guy's track record. It's awful.
Caldwell has brought the talent in. Gus just fails to squeeze Ws out of them
Gus said the guys " played hard " on Sunday........I think he got his words twisted. He meant to say his guys " hardly played "

Pot Roast had a decent run with Denver

Ok. Just stop. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
Caldwell is overrated. He also has the smartest-kid-in-the-room thing going on that Gene had

How does that work?  Gene and Dave have effectively polar opposite drafting methods.  BAP vs Need, small school gems vs big school with college production.

In what way is Dave being the smartest kid in the room?

First off, 2013 was a weak draft. There weren't many players taken after Joeckel who were worth 1st round picks either. Also, Caldwell was stuck with Gene's scouting department that draft. He remade the scouting department after that draft. Joeckel looks to be a serviceable LT this year. You expect more from the #2 pick in a draft, but maybe not that particular draft. He's at least looking better than any of the four OTs drafted in the first round in 2009, including Monroe who hasn't exactly been lighting it up in Baltimore.

Cyprien, Gratz, and Sanders looked pretty good in 2013. McCray was more of a project but he had some highlights that showed there was potential, and then last year he was one of the better CBs in the NFL.
These four players have already declined. That's 100% on the coaches, not the GM.

Someone like who?    Name a previously successful head coach who you think would come coach this team based on our track record of dismissing coaches

I'd recommend rewatching the game and keying in on Joeckel.  It's a slight stretch to call him serviceable unless you mean he's a 300 lb ish body to have on the football field.  The Jags will have to address the position in the next off season or draft.

Money talks. I'd bet Chucky would love to take the job if you offered him enough. He likes Florida, and would get the chance to show what an offensive genius can do with Bortles.

I don't think he was nearly as bad as you are making him out to be.
Quote:We need to hire Trump as our next GM. He could make deals that will truly benefit the team. Nobody makes better deals than The Donald. Plus we get to hear him say, "Gus.....ya fired!"

Make the Jags Great Again.

This was good.
Quote:Fowler is a horrible pick, he was a role player at Florida now he's got a bumb knee. Cooper should've been the pick and everyone knows it. But Caldwell is a needs drafter and we NEEDED a pass rusher, he probably didn't even get the best pass rusher.

Do you even football?
Caldwell seems to get a free pass from the fan base.  Is the talent really there from the drafts?  Are there a ton of players other teams wish they had?  It's more like a combo of both Gus and Dave.  There's not much talent, and they're not being used to the best of their abilities.
