So when is the proper expectation to make the playoffs? 2017?  If we can't even make 8-8 this year, I don't see how we can make the playoffs in 2016.

  Very good points.

Some teams are able to have quick turnarounds.  But in the cases of the Jags of this decade and the Lions from the latter part of last decade,   there truly are no quick fixes that can be sustained.   It's painful to go through this as fans of a team but it's rewarding when / if your team reaches the pinnacle.
Quote:No one is saying Playoffs or bust.  I'm asking for 8 wins.

You do realize that's five more wins than they had last year? I'd like to know just how many teams over the past decade have improved from one season to the next by five wins. I actually do think they'll go 8-8, but by no means is that the minimum for Gus to not be fired. His seat isn't that hot yet.

The bottom line is that Khan is not going to fire Gus as long as this team's arrow is clearly pointed up. Five wins would leave the arrow a bit flat, but six would be a definite sign of improvement especially considering the team has never even reached six wins with Khan as the owner. Khan has proven to be a man who will do what he thinks is right even if it's counter to a handful of crybaby fans.

Who's crying?  I'm sick of this crap.  We are more worried about other things vs the main goal of each game, and that is WINS.  If we go 0-4 then win against the Bucs week 5, and Bradley jumps around like a lunatic, I'm going to lose it.

I'd expect to be in the playoffs conversation next year with Fowler back and one more offseason of improvement. The tough part of actually getting there in this division is knowing that the Colts usually take it, and knowing that with only two wildcards you probably have to reach 10 wins to claim one. I still recall the Patriots getting 11 wins a few years back and stil missing out on the wildcard. I agree that 8-8 would be a legitimate spring board season toward making the playoffs in 2016, and I do hope to see that, but going 6-10 or 7-9 doesn't mean they should scrap everything and start over again. Doing that would just mean another half-decade of misery.

As sad as it sounds, there is a very strong liklihood of this happening.

I know...that is why I can see this happening.  It's so predictable.  I just don't want to have another year like the last.  That was a defining moment for me as a fan, where I had lost ALL hope with my favorite team.  For the first time, I stopped watching games mid-way through, and eveyrthing became so predictable.  How many people on this board could predict the next play being called?  I would guess like 90%.  Thank God the O Coordinator has changed.  It became too frustrating watching this team, and when Bradley jumps around when we won 3 games at the end of the year, it made me question him as a HC.
Quote:I get where you're coming from here, but understand it's not that anyone is 'okay' with only 6 wins; the idea was more about what the minimum record would be for Gus to remain here. That's a different idea than being 'satisfied' with only 6 wins. Now having said this, the 'six wins saves Gus' idea was proposed back before the injury bug elected to visit our team. Given the situation with Marks, Fowler, and Thomas, Gus 'might' arguably have a reasonable rational if the team fails to reach 6 wins this season. Not that it would make any of the fans feel better; we've endured one awful season after another for years now and we've heard all the excuses before. No one (no one not in a straight jacket, that is) is looking for us to win a super bowl this season; however, it's time for this team to stop being so...... awful. We'll see.

I can guarantee that Gus Bradley will probably lose his job if he fails to get more than four wins this year, because look at the NFL track record especially in Jacksonville.  It is a tough league for tough men which includes coaches, if you fail to perform on the field you lose your job.  Is he a great guy, sure.  Does he have potential to be a great head coach, sure you could say that about a lot of guys that arent Head Coaches.  It is put up or shut up time.  In order to be 'Safe' he has to win this year.  He had three years with GM Dave Caldwell to gut the team and rebuild, a huge gutting (some dispute that it wasnt all needed).   He doesn't need to take the team to the playoffs especially with the injuries and lack of talent still at key positions but he has to at least get close to the .500 mark this year or be really close in the games that he lost.
Quote:Agreed. If fans knew they'd win 6 after just 4 last year, how many would be buying tickets? 8-8 would be progress...anything under is just another losing season, making it ,what?, 8 straight years?
In this sense the owner, Shahid Khan, has the best loyal fans.  We do not cry the way fans of some other teams do, (like the Redskins & Cowboy fans for example).  The team hasn't had a contender in almost a decade (last time in playoffs was 2007, which other than 2010 when the team went 8-8 its been all losing records [under .500] since 2007 season).

That is a really long time for fans not to complain when they keep being told every couple of years that the team needs to be rebuilt again.

I feel as almost the entire fan base has bought in to GM Dave Caldwell & HC Gus Bradley's plan, and for the most part are still holding on waiting to see the final product.   We don't have to wait anymore, despite the injuries, head coach Gus Bradley said that the team has been built this year that will own the AFC South.

He has already set the expectations that we as fans should have for this year and the following year, is that the Jaguars will if nothing else win the AFC South Title!

so let's rejoice and enjoy the ride

GO JAGS!
Quote:Bradley is a copy cat coach and it is not working.  I don't think he has the brains to be an NFL HC.

That is a bit harsh.  To be fair the NFL is a copycat league.  If something works you go with it.  Why would you try to reinvent the wheel?  That being said I do think that one of Gus Bradley's coaching weaknesses is the halftime adjustments.

His opponets will see what the team is trying to do, and come up with counter measures that he doesnt seem to be as good at doing or getting the team to do it successful if he does.   He is a good team motivator, a players coach.  He oozes positivity and players want to work hard for him.  He is a great defensive mind, but his offense is left to the OC (which the team now has a new set of ones with OC Olson, and Ast HC Marrone providing input as well).

From what I've seen during preseason despite lacking talent I do think the Offense will be at least average this year.  The question that I've had and had for several years now is that with the Deep Zone Blitz coverage packages Gus likes to use he lacks the DBs especially at FS & a really good pressing CB to fully pull off like he did in Seattle.  As well as his LEO & OTTO positions have struggled.
Quote:I have been coming to this forum for the last 4 years. Would just come to read what everyone was saying about the Jags. I have been a Jaguars fan since the beginning. Today is the day I have decided to join. Now I think the Jags are going to have a decent year 9 wins is possible hell 10 is possible. If it is there time the wins will happen they just need to play hard and want it. It all depends on O line play which is greatly improved if they can keep Bortles up right we can move the ball. QB play which we do have a good QB. A good QB can mask a lot of problems you have elsewhere. Running Game out of the Stable of RBs we have someone should have a good season I think it is Yeldon But I see special packages for Grant. Defense is my concern we are improved but getting to the QB is going to be a challenge. I personally think Gus will have a plan there with schemes and Blitz packages to help. But Gus is not a blitz guy but he will dial up the pressure from time to time. I think if we show great improvement Gus is not on the Hot seat. But if some how we get off to a 0-8 start Gus is gone. I personally think we will go 8-8 maybe 9-7 I do think we will take at least one game from the Colts as well. I do not think this is the same old Jags this is a new team and time for a new start.
nice that you choose my topic to join after 4 years.

welcome aboard.

I Appreciate your insight and opinions.

and I agree with u on every point.

I believe if we play to our potential 10 wins is possible. not probbible. possible

And???  Oh snap Gus, you need to act like CSO14 wants you to or he will lose it!!!

He has already stated the team is built.  They expect to compete.  You want minimum 8 wins or bust.  I can promise you that is not how Khan and Caldwell are looking at things and nor should they.  You are already talking about 2016 and 2017.  Let the season play out and relax...

It's nice you didn't answer my question, but you decide to act like a moron just because we have different ideas of how this team should be heading. You believe in mediocrity and that hopefully one day Gus will bring it all together. Then when he's fired, you'll swear it's what you knew the whole time. Get over yourself. When should the Jags be in the playoffs? It won't be next year by your logic, but getting 8-8 does.
we won't win a game until we play our first game againest texans.  I already told you all expect no better then 6-10 this year.

We can't beat the Bucs? Really? Crab legs is going to get smashed.
Quote:This is not a mid-tier starting roster. If Gus has to go then the concensus must be that Dave Caldwell has to go as well.

Are you ready to get rid of both if they don't go 8-8 ? I'm not.

Caldwell has brought the talent. Its up to Gus to squeeze the Ws out of them
Bucs are a good team at home.

Yikes, ESPN bash not only on the Power Rankings (Ranked 31) but vegas odds of 300 to 1 due to the team being way off from any hope of going to the playoffs this year let alone a SuperBowl.

-----------------

From the article, ." Really, the problems in J-ville are so widespread -- 26th in both points and yards allowed in 2014 -- that it's unfair to bury Bortles, even if he did have the fifth-lowest QBR for a rookie (25.2) since 2006, the year the metric made its debut.

and rumours about GM Dave Caldwell & HC Gus Bradley over the analytics department

--------------------

The team had a league low of only 6 INTs last season and had 0 during this year's Preseason.

Ouch.

ESPN's take on Gus Bradley's job security....

Bottom line: Unless the team looks no better than the last two seasons, which I think is unlikely, Bradley should be safe.

-----------------------------------------------

I do think that Gus has to do better than the last two seasons combined but I think if the team wins at least 7 he's safe.

tbh it's hard to wipe out the entire roster and go anything better than what we have. saw a stat yesterday that says we still have the second youngest team in the league.  I'm guessing that by that stat we won't worry about gus or David until at least YR6, since on average it takes about 4 years for a player to develop.
