Can Beachum play LG?

I mean idk, but judging by his run blocking last year I'd say he has little value there. I hope they spend heavy on the oline in FA. I like moves on guys like Albert because I feel they generally play well into their mid 30s, providing a clean injury history which Albert unfortunately doesn't have. I really do appreciate the gamble though. Give me a former pro-bowl, oft-injured LT over a former pro-bowl, oft-injured TE that played with Peyton F. Manning every time. The oline needs bodies in the worst way.

The injured thing is a bit harsh on Albert. He's played in at least 12 games every year since he came into the league in 2008 aside from 2014 when he tore his ACL and MCL, at that point to quote NFL.com: "The Miami Dolphins' best offensive player is gone for the season.". Most years he's played 14+ games too. He's got a similar record to most linemen, our best one (Linder) has missed a good chunk of games for example.

Albert is a better left tackle than Beachum is right now, but the problem lies in the fact that Albert is constantly dinged up and he's well over 30. Had we stayed pat, it's likely that Kelvin Beachum would have still been under contract with us when Albert calls it a career.

 

That doesn't even account for Julius Thomas and whatever value you apply to him.

He has one full season of football in 9 years. His injuries have held him back his entire career, I don't think concerns about his injury's are harsh on him.

He's started more than 12 games once in the past five years. If history holds true, we'll have our backup left tackle starting at least a quarter of the season.

I guess I just empathize with guys who miss games with serious injuries. Thomas seemed to miss half a season with a broken finger or something.

Before bringing Albert aboard, if it even happens, we had no viable alternatives to a replacement LT without paying Beachum coin that he wasn't quite worth in the FO's opinion (I disagree btw). Now we do.


I say sign Beachum to an incentive laden deal based on him being the starting LT for 80% of the snaps. Then let him and Albert compete, with the loser kicking to RT.


Re-sign the Joke to compete for a starting guard or swing tackle job. Keep Parnell as a backup. Sign Warford. Draft a guy. Flourish.

We just got rid of a dead weight sloth, and in return got a pro bowl LT. Who cares how old he is? Albert will be good for at least two more years, JT wouldn't have done anything for us.

It was a broken hand and it happened like 3 plays into the 1st preseason game that year. He then missed the rest of the preseason and the first 4 games of the regular season.

 

But yea, injuries have been a bit of an issue with him regardless.

I guess his leverage has decreased a bit, but that only applies to a deal with us. This trade doesn't really change his overall leverage since there still are 31 possible destinations for him.

Both players have similar contracts and injury concerns but one plays a premium position whereas the other plays a much less integral position.


It seems like a calculated gamble and TC is banking on the hopes that if Albert does play, he'll be a hell of an impact player. Just hope the Jaguars win the trade in whatever fashion possible.

If true, which it looks like it is, very disappointing that Julius Thomas didnt work out. I was a big fan of the move and always thought he was a good player. He just cant get healthy and unfortunately for him, came into a bad situation here in Jacksonville. I still think he is a good player, but given how poor the Jaguars have been and with Thomas not putting up great production, maybe parting ways the best decision. 

 

I guess its a good trade, Albert is a good player, he is getting up there in age though at 32.

Yeah as I said his health is too much of a ??. All healthy though he offers more by playing more spots and being better in the run.

I wonder if its straight up player for player or which team is sacrificing what picks

Too be fair, yes, hes had his fair share of injuries. But Hes played every season and started the majority of the games. Just look at his stats, hes pretty reliable, though he does miss like 2 or 3 games a season. He did have one season back in 2014 where he missed like 7 games, but other than that. Hes been dinged up and missed a few games here or there.

I think Beachum being extremely outspoken about how things were ran during his time here might have rubbed the organization the wrong way.  Beachum was speaking nothing but facts though.

He's an extremely injury prone player whatever way you look at it.
