I imagine it would be "sweetened" by extending it. He is only under contract for 2 more years

Albert has agreed to go to Jags, now it's on Thomas.

Wouldn't it be funny if Thomas refused to restructure, so the Dolphins called off the trade and cut Albert, and Albert said, I'm signing with Jacksonville. Apparently, he's already negotiated a contract extension with us. So why wouldn't he just go ahead and come here?

Because he can't until March 9th and another team might offer him a better deal than us
Quote:It's a deep draft for tight ends. I dont think they used Julius correctly but he wasn't what I thought he would be. Very soft after the catch.

I'm hoping they draft either fournette or OJ Howard with the first pick. Which ever one blows up the combine the most
It's a deep draft for TEs and RBs.....

So let's use our 1st round pick on one! Smart!

Not entirely true.

If a player is released, he can sign before March 9. But if his contract expires and he becomes a free agent, then he can't sign until March 9.
Good at least we get something for Thomas

Looks like we ain't getting a pick.

Anyways, I'm quite happy to see the back of Julius Thomas. I know we were awful during his stay here but I can't think of any other player who was as lazy as him during his time here.

#Dolphins LT Branden Albert is visiting the #Jaguars today, sources say, helping facilitate an Albert-for-Julius Thomas potential trade.

Not quite sure how that's legal considering it's not legal tampering period and he is still officially a Dolphin...but there's the update.

Teams can't talk to an employed player's agent before March 7 if his contract is expiring because it is a unilateral move. We are talking about a a player swap here. Nothing can become official until March 9.

I wish it was a pick.
I'd rather have a proven LT than a 7th round pick. Some of you are delusional. Nobody was going to give us anything for Julius Thomas. How can you even say that you would rather have a pick, which would have been a late round conditional pick who would have eventually been cut, over a proven LT who was just a pro bowler in 2015?

Ok, Branden Albert's agent says the situation is NOT completed in Jacksonville. #Jaguars think it is. The plot thickens.

Because PFT florio. (who I can't stand) wrote a short piece. But in this case. Makes a ton of sense. On the possible trade. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...g-jaguars/

However, Coughlin is not dumb. And would not allow a release. And would make Thomas sit on the bench and make nothing. Ultimately forcing him to play regardless. If he was thinking about backing out of the trade.

That's all he's got left in the tank anyway. He's old. Extending it would be dumb.

He's old and injury prone and we're gonna have to find Albert's replacement sooner, rather than later.

He is not injury prone.
Looks like we're not trading Thomas.

One full healthy season in 9 years is injury prone.

Can you give me a list of pro bowl caliber tackles. That are never injured? A few games here and there?
