Perfect!
Bortles was absolutely on fire last preseason, though. Throws were on a rope, extending plays, making difficult throws, commandment... That's why I believe this guy has major potential. I've seen it already. It was against backups, but that doesn't mean he can never do it against starters. Personally, I think he shocks all of us this season.

Compare this throw to the Lee touchdown against the Giants. Same throw, same result but WOW what a difference in technique.

Looking at those two throws is like reading a book written about Bortles summer working on quarterback mechanic's. Great find Rooster.

He is only starting his 2nd year in the NFL yet I think expectations from most fans is to see him come out as a Franchise star QB with a team lacking great WR talent and an Oline / running game trying to rebuild from the leagues worst last year.

I think Bortles will do much better but let's not get out of hand with expectations from him this year.

Who is on the receiving end? Julias Thomas?

Great throw, and equally important, the receiver came down with the ball.

Allen Hurns. Beast.

Even better! Glad his hands are sticking to the ball!

AR15 + Hurns paired with Julius Thomas and Marcedes could be something really, really good.

Very true. For me, the team has been so talent starved for so long that improvement is a big deal and easy to reignite excitement. I'm working hard on being realistic.

If this throw were the exception and he was normally dropping his arm and looping around I could understand the hand wringing about Bortles, but from what I've seen in the videos of training camp so far his motion looks good in all the throws I can recall seeing and while some passes have some wobble I think his ability to recognize what he's seeing on the field and make good decisions will be where his major statistical improvements come from, not from whether his passes ever have wobble.

Agreed! Definitely good to see that preseason year 1 zip back, though. He still has to take those calculated risks. We want a playmaker here not an Alex Smith, but Bortles is all about taking shots so I'm not worried about that.
Nice to see him make that throw, I've been looking for it for a while. That's the question though, is it the exception or the rule. Beautiful pass though.

I think it's kind of funny. We have been down so long that we don't recognize what we have. Thomas, Hurns, and A-Rob are top-tier skill-wise imho. If Bortles has what we all still hope (me included), he is not hindered by the talent around him anymore. It is play-calling, and execution that will make the difference now. Most especially on 3rd down. Even more especially when the game is on the line.

But can our playmakers make the plays without getting hurt? Julius Thomas knows how I think. Hurns and A-Rob need to learn to keep their heads down, and get to the ground before taking the punishing hits when the extra yard is meaningless. Keep those fingers and toes in too. Both of them had ankle injuries last year attributable to risking their bodies to make the play. Bortles too... yeah, we want to see him extend the play when possible, but not at the risk of having some huge DE land full weight on him in a precarious body position.

Play and stay healthy. We have good talent now, but we need everyone to win.

FYI for those who think throwing to rookie wide receivers isn't challenging:

AARON RODGERS TESTING HIS YOUNG WRS

The Packers QB has 5 INTs in camp so far and 4 of them have come when targeting a 1st- or 2nd-year receiver: "We've got to do a better job of catching the over-the-top balls, whether they're out in front of us a little or slightly behind us when [you] go back up and make the play in the air."

There is a very thing margin between the unstoppable throw and a turnover. The quarterback often throws wide receivers open which requires the ball to be out before the route break. If the receiver is slow by half a second then the ball could be picked off easily, which even happens to greats like Rodgers.

Best throw he's made in a Jaguars uniform. Reminded me of what we saw against Chicago in the preseason last year. Hopefully this carries over into the regular season.
Im waitin for the scrimmage to get a better look at his mechanics ans even then we wont know for certain until the actual season starts.

Bortles looked like a stud in the vanilla preseason whereas carr and bridgewater struggled only to have the tables completely turn in the reg season.

As for arm failures for bortles and the so called rigors of going from college to the nfl it didnt seem to bother Carr who is not the physical specimen bortles was. Both had crap lines, no running game and failed OCs and carr would have tied our TD single season record i believe he had 23.

That throwing motion is Marino-esque
im gonna say this now. Gus and Greg may be preaching run heavy offense. With Hurns Arob JT Merc. all in the lineup i can see us changing quickly to pass heavy offense.

Derek Carr definitely had a way better throwing motion than Bortles and most would say a stronger arm. Carr's worst flaw as a draft prospect was his last name.

This offense won't morph until a passing offense until Blake is able to singlehandedly put the team on his back, that doesn't happen to most franchise QB's until year 4-5, Andrew Luck is the exception. The more he plays the more the game slows down, once that happens look out.
