Quote:Derek Carr definitely had a way better throwing motion than Bortles and most would say a stronger arm. Carr's worst flaw as a draft prospect was his last name.
That and he's skittish in the pocket when pressured, I don't understand the Derek Carr hype. I watched him a lot last year and came away thoroughly unimpressed, the stats don't tell the story. Greg Olsen did a great job of hiding Carrs deficiencies with a brilliant protection schemes and a horizontal quick hitting pass game. I have a feeling Carr is going to struggle mightily this year without Olsen.

Is this the first official TROLLOLOLOL of the season????
Congrats on beating Bartram Springs and MR FLORIDA!!!!!!
HOLD UP! what I do but speak FACTS? go check the records lol. and i think its WAAAAAAAY too early to say anyone looks the same before halftime of the first game of the season lol
Derek Carr was definitely better than Bortles last season statistically, but some of those stats also look poorly for Carr as well. I remember hearing somewhere around 40-45% of his TD passes were thrown within the five yard line. He was protected by his scheme for sure. A lot cleaner stats, but far less impressive plays than Bortles flashed.
The scheme and play calling made him look better on paper than he really looked in person. I watched quite a few of his games because I liked him before the draft, but even based on just the first year of actual play, I would still pick Bortles at this point. He flashed a lot more potential to be a top tier QB compared to a guy with a higher floor like Carr.
Carr had 31 less sacks (55-24) and isn't nearly as mobile as Blake. Speaks volumes about the protection they had. Maybe Blake had a few more on the QB but certainly not 31 more. That's how bad this line was last year. Hopefully with the additions of Parnell, Wiz and a more experienced Joekel and Linder they can cut that number in half. Bortles isn't going to last very long taking 55 sacks a season.

I don't know about that, Carr is no statue back there either.
i would trade bortles and lee for mack and carr anytime. then we couldve picked cooper over fowler. damn the raiders are drafting well lately

I really wanted Amari Cooper in this offense. I really wanted Sammy Watkins last year. I understood picking Bortles over Watkins, but I was less enthusiastic about them skipping over Cooper for Fowler. Fowler tearing his knee made it even worse for me.

go root for another team like the Raiders because we don't need you.

Time will tell, I guess. We are pretty well set up at the WR position, so I'm glad we didn't pick up Cooper... It stinks that Fowler ripped up his knee, but let's see how we think of Fowler in a couple more years.
Besides, WRs can be gotten later on in the draft and still be very very productive, unless you have a Julio Jones/Megatron type WR on the board. I don't see Cooper as that type of WR... But I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Carr is being way overhyped. He barely took any shots last year with a better line infront of him.

I would of traded Gabbert and Anger for Wilson and Watt. You have to look at the draft as a whole would you trade whole deaf for whole draft? Then no Linder, Smith, Smith, or , Colvin

lol someone is a little angry

not me i'm just tired or stupidity and fanfare for someone who is very overrated. Like i said before go root for the raiders since you like them so much and watch bortles be way better than Derek (gabbert) carr this year. He wasn't picked in the first round last year because of his last name but for that USC bowl game when was exposed for not wanting to get hit.

stupidity and fanfare? hi someone disagrees with my opinion so theyre idiots. nice logic there buddy. way to be unbiased. lol at using college games. you know they had a whole rookie year right? and based on what i saw they seem to be in equal footing.

Yeah you're right i had used the wrong choice of words to explain my disagreement with you so to a man i apologize and i hope you forgive me for my actions. However, to argue your last point the reason why it wasn't so exposed in his rookie year is because unlike our former offensive coordinator, Olsen played to his strength and hide his deficiencies as a qb. If you watched the raiders games last year which i did you can see that Olsen encouraged him to do alot of check downs because in my opinion when i watched him play i thought i was looking at Chad Henne bases on the style of play. I think people in general just look at the stats and make their judgement about a player but if you evaluate everything, a person would see that derek carr ceiling is very limited. His yds per attempt is 5.4 which is very gabbert like so that stat should tell you everything about his game.

you can say olsen played his strengths and hid his deficiencies but you can say about that about every coach. but the raiders wr corps last year cant even crack the top 4 in our rotation and their running game was so horrid last season its hard to think there was someone worse than us lol. its a little premature to assume carrs ceiling is limited due to the talent that surrounded him. for a person complaining that people make judgement based on stats, youre really sold on his yards per attempt. you know bortles was 2nd to last right? anyways i think both qbs have a bright future along with bridgewater, not sure who will be the top but im hoping its bortles though hiring olson might hinder that a bit.
I am torn because I want to see Bortles play a whole half for each week of the Preseason to get more practice yet I'm very worried of him being injured in a pointless game.

More practice the better. I would rather risk his health than risk another season having 3-5 wins.
Yeah you are right he was only ranked #68 (QB Rating) in the NFL last season with 69.5, #52 in comp pct with 58.9%, ranked #62 in avg with 6.1, yet 2nd in INTs with 17 (sadly Chad Henne had better stats but of course didnt play as much as Blake and wasnt a rookie).
Its best for him to learn and for the team to truly see how much he's improved this offseason.
