I will never forget the Ebola towel....

Mike Dirocco broke the story earlier today, and Curtis just confirmed on 1010XL that he's retiring as Jaxson DeVille after 19 years.  He said he's tired of downing large doses of Advil to deal with the pain of being a 40 year old guy in a cat suit.  Apparently he has several local opportunities on TV. 

 

His antics are legendary.  Someone is going to have some huge shoes to fill.

He's saying they won't replace the mascot, so someone else will be putting that suit on.  I'm not sure how you top what he's done over the past 19 years.

Apparently there will be an official press release coming from the team some time later today.

Whoever replaces him will have big shoes to fill. LOL It does seem odd that he will not have a final farewell year. The CAT smells something fishy.

There was quite a bit of Twitter chatter that this was happening. Apparently, the Jaxson Twitter account has been silent for several weeks and Curtis created his own personal Twitter account.

 

My guess is people today will say he is irreplaceable. But by the time the season starts, people will forget a different guy is in the suit.

I'd rather they come up with an entirely new mascot.

 

I can't imagine a replacement/scrub Jaxson.

 

To me, there is/was only one.

Wow. This is a sad day as a Jags fan. We have been blessed with arguably the greatest sports mascot of the past 2 decades. Like the other poster said, whoever replaces him will have some mighty large shoes to fill. I wonder what's next for Curtis? Maybe he'll pursue a professional golfing career?

My guess was radio or tv.  The guy is pretty comfortable out of his costume so he will do well.

All seems very sudden, no?

I wonder if they'll even bother trying to replace him. Man, this off-season sure has been an emotional roller coaster.

Give him his own radio show. It cannot be worse than that monstrosity with Joe Cowart and Hacker.

Wow man. He was the best part of our team, as sad as that sounds. Now we aren't the best at anything. Jaxson was the best mascot in sports, he was always voted as the #1 mascot in sports. Like someone above said, just come up with a whole different mascot.

Greatest mascot in a long time. Best one in the NFL easily.
