Allen Hurns Deadline Today [MERGED]

We now know Lee is staying put, but he was even saying he knew that one of them... himself, Hurns or ARob would be gone... and for a time he thought it would be him. He was grateful to return but was preparing to possibly leave. I like Lee's approach that he felt he was the vet in the room last year, but this year he's really going to take on that leadership role with the younger WRs. This much would even make more sense if Hurns were to find himself traded.

I know and that's why I think it's pretty funny to try and base things off of social media crap. How quickly everybody forgets about Bruce Irvin adding and following all kinds of Jaguars' social medias a few off seasons ago. Only for him to sign with the Raiders.. It literally means nothing.

Add fowlers option we are close to 50M over. LOTS of cuts will be made... so many holes on defense will happen because of it. What better than to have a franchise QB who got a year to learn ready to take over? First of all, they're currently $27 million over in 2018, not $50 million. Figure in a rookie pool and certain other things and they're probably $35 million over the unadjusted cap. Second of all, you can roll over cap money from the previous year, for 2018 we've rolled over $27 million. I'd imagine they'd have less money to roll over in 2019 but I'd assume they'd roll over something. Third of all, they are going to be cuts but those cuts shouldn't be that hard to find. Cutting Jackson, Campbell and Dareus would clear $34 million in cap space right away. Edit: I didn't notice the "add Fowler's option" in the $50 million figure, that would indeed put us far over but I'd bet they either don't pick up that option or figure out a long term deal to avoid that high one year hit.

I think we can stay good if we can keep our young core players and replace our older, expensive players with draft picks. It all depends on how we draft in the next few years.
Yeah with the core players on D locked up replace the older players and keep doing smart contracts.
No Fun

In case anyone didn't hear, it does appear that the $4 million deadline thing on Friday for Hurns was incorrect. Oehser admitted his mistake this morning.
In regards to our future salary cap in 2019, I don't see us picking up the option on Fowler. He's probably let go. If he's back, it would be on a deal that pays less than the $14 million. As for other ways to get under the cap, Hurns is an easy $8 million in savings. I suspect Dareus at $11.5 million is not back. Parnell at $6 million would be a big candidate to be let go. Right tackles are far easier to find than left tackles. You might consider Gipson with over $7 million in savings. Safeties often drop in the draft. Church would be $6 million in savings, but I think he's more likely to return. Centers often drop in the draft too, but I think we would keep Linder despite a potential $6 million in savings. Some of it may be a combination of lower paid players. We could save a little under $2 million by replacing our punter with an undrafted rookie. Our new free agent trio of Cody Davis, Niles Paul and Lerentee McCray would combine to save us over $7 million if we wanted to part ways in 2019. They're nice for depth and special teams, but you could always use some late round draft picks on depth positions. I'm guessing next year's draft will be very needs focused. Also, keep in mind that we could restructure some contracts. I know it makes some nervous to push money into future years, but as long as it is done in moderation, it's ok. In particular, you could do it with select players who you are confident will be with the team for the long term. As someone said, as long as we draft well, we'll be fine. Rarely happens. People on this board as obsessed with the mythical team friendly deal, every single player we have is apparently open to the concept of signing a team friendly deal because they are oh so willing to stay in the warm bosom that is the Jaguars organization. Colvin was supposed to sign a team friendly deal to keep playing in this great defense we have here, right up to the point where he cashed in $18 million guaranteed from the tinhorns. Rarely happens. Mythical is the best way to describe it. Linder was extended as the highest paid center at the time. Telvin as one of the highest wlbs. It can happen sometimes with older vets who just want a roster spot and to win but not with young ascending players. Good luck trying to sell Fowler's agent on taking a team friendly deal *just* to stay in Florida. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The hard part on Fowler is we have to make a decision on the option by May, which is 14 million I believe, that could complicate things
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Hurns remains with the Jaguars under the same contract. ...be careful with your blind trust.

I'm not convinced the information was incorrect as I feel we nailed the guaranteed salary portion of the deal along with how it just became guaranteed. I'm still convinced Hurns is now guaranteed $4 mil of his base salary, and it's simply a matter of whether the Jaguars or another team pays him. I'm guessing they told O-man that there is no roster bonus, and that's why he ran with this.
