Jaguars coaching candidates? (merged coaching threads)

Dude is just a name now without Brady..

I've argued that for years. And really it isn't just him. Remember Jim Caldwell? Went to the Super Bowl in his first year as a coach. Two years later he went 2-14. He must of slipped and hit his head on a locker and forgot how to coach. Or maybe something else happened, I can’t quite remember. Players are far more important than coaches. If you don't have good players, coaching is largely irrelevant.

That's why I keep saying the GM is the most important part of a football team.

And you are correct. Now, I guess if the coach is the GM, then yes, coaching matters greatly.

I'm here for Byron Leftwich!
Bring the big man back to where it all began!
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Should he bring Gabbert back with him?

A related factor could be the failure of Saints QB Coach Joe Lombardi as Lions Offensive Coordinator under Jim Caldwell. Lombardi was fired after game # 7 in his 2nd season in that role. Sean Payton rehired Lombardi as QB Coach in 2016.

Yeah, turns out it's not hard to look good when Drew Brees is throwing the passes.

Is Gabbert a coach now?
Leftwich has proven he can coach.
Gabbert could get a chance as Quality Control or something.

PFF stats are made up and irrelevant. Compare Brady’s numbers to Rodgers and get back to me.

They played the Vikings, Atlanta twice, and Lions and were all supposed to impressed please.

This would be like hiring the Titanic's navigator to teach you how to drive a boat.

Aren"t most coaches former players that never made it big? Like flamed out after HS or College, or maybe had a short or uneventful professional career.

lol, so if he doesnt have A Rods numbers it means he isnt playing at a high level? Not to mention hes 43 and the first year in this system.  Go look at Rodgers numbers the last 3 years

We’ve already requested, scheduled or done interviews with 3 or more minority GM candidates. I think the RR requirements have been met.
Truth be told, in today’s environment with that silly rule, they’d come off the wrong way if they only interviews one minority.  So, I get it.  Plus the “casting a wide net” which if I’m not mistaken we’ve already heard in the past.  So I wouldn’t worry too much about it

You are making my head hurt...

Saleh is a DC....if he was hired to be the Jags HC we would need to hire an OC.

In that scenario, flgatorsjags suggested Lafleur to be his OC.  If TLawerence and the Jags offense looks good then in 2022 Lafleur could be a HC candidate and the Jags would be looking for another OC in TLawerence 2nd year and possibly a different scheme.

Flgatorsjags is saying he would prefer an offensive minded head coach over Saleh to begin with instead of worrying about juggling OCs every year.

I am well aware of that. Your head hurts because you missed the point, and are unable to keep up with the exchange. Answer me this ... Do we want coaches that are so good they may be sought after by other teams? Doesn't really matter if it is a defense coach, or an offensive coach (if you recognize the difference). If someone wants an offensive coach, then say so without reservation, but why worry the coordinator may be too good? Josh McDaniels stayed one season too long (this time), and you hear nothing about him being sought after. I would rather we have coaches every year (ala Pats) be sought after rather than keep the same bums that no one wants. Agree? Probably not. Bienemy has become the new McDaniels. He has Mahomes, and our next coordinater will have Lawrence. It will be a pleasure to have OUR coaches sought after. No? Take two aspirins, and call me in the morning.

I can't tell if you're actually not understanding.

He's not saying he doesn't want the OC to be good. He's saying that he would rather us have an offensive HC because IF the OC gets poached it won't cause TL to have to learn a new offensive system because the offensive HC will have his own system in place and it will be consistent.

Welcome to posting on the board...

It seems like everyone except for 1 person understood what Flgatorsjags meant but good try on the cute post.
