Jags and Free Agency

Just heard on the local ESPN Chicago radio show that the Bears have granted Akiem Hicks permission to seek a trade.

Would we have interest in him and/or Kyle Fuller who was also released today?

The Cole deal seems very reasonable. Does anyone know what we are paying Dorsett? I'd much rather have Cole over him.

Its gotta be less than what Cole is getting.

Dorsett signed a 1 year $2.6m contract with the Pats in 2019 and a 1 year $1m contract with the Seahawks this past season. Can't see how/why he'd get much more than what he got from the Hawks or Pats.

We simply have no room for Hicks. What was once an area of need (DE/DT and NT) is now an area of real strength. If we did sign Hicks, we'd pretty much have to deal someone or have a starting caliber player sitting on the bench. With Fuller, it would depend on his asking price. IMO, you can never have enough good corners.

I've been looking everywhere to see how much we overpaid for Dorsett, but I can't find the details of the deal anywhere online.

Makes plenty of sense. Your backup...you want someone similar in the skillset to your starter. Robinson is a big, strong runner. You build your offense based on that so you want a backup of the same style in case he gets hurt, you won't have to change your game plan.

Lindsey is a change of pace, different type back.

Well said and much understood.

We Need a backfield to which our RBs (1st, 2nd and 3rd string) plays a part within the game plan in most games if not all games.

We Need those Fresh Legs running down the stretch.

We Need that scat back catching the ball out of the back field that can take it to the house.

We Need the 2nd stringer to mirror the 1st stringer.

We Need a Trio that will make a name for themselves.

We Need to draft a RB within the first three rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Damn! We're Needy.

Had the Broncs called before releasing him, I might have offered Carlos Hyde in trade...

Just heard Urban state on GMF that they are still working on getting the TE position improved during free agency. Might we see a trade for Zach Ertz? Don't know if any other TE's still out there are worth acquiring, vs addressing in the draft.

Think of it this way - we get our comp pick for letting him test FA a year early, and likely get more than a comp pick would bring us had he held on to him.
I don't get this.  People are convinced that Cam Robinson can improve after four seasons and 50 starts, but there's a 0% chance that a player who has been limited to 4 games in two seasons because of injury can't?  That makes no sense!

The roster spot argument is ridiculous.  We're not under 53 roster limit right now.  Besides, injuries are the biggest concern with Oliver.  If he's injured again, players on injured reserve don't count as a roster spot.  You then have to remember that the pick we're getting is conditional.  That means if he doesn't make the Ravens, we get absolutely nothing.  In simplistic terms, there's two scenarios here:

Oliver is Bad:  In this case, we get NOTHING.
Oliver is Good:  We gave up an early 3rd rounder at a position of desperate need for a very late 7th rounder.

This is a classic case of heads we tie, tails we lose.  If you think that's a good bet, Las Vegas casinos would love you.

What you fail to recognize though is that the past 32 times that coin flipped, it landed on tails all but a very few times. If you expect the outcome to be heads, you are likely denying what you already know.

Has anyone considered that Urbz and or Bevell aren't looking for TE like Oliver? If that's the case, why would they bother keeping him around if they are looking for someone more inline blocker than field-stretching receiver? Truth is, we don't know. I'm just choosing not to wad my shorts up over a guy who has accounted for nothing while he's been here. If we get something for him, super. If we don't, we got the chance to move on and hopefully develop someone who can either stay on the field or at least account for 20 yards in their career.

What is the status of Armstead? Will he be available this year? I thought he showed some promise at the end of 2019.

At this point in his career, Ertz is a downgrade from Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. Plus, we'd have to likely give up a mid round pick for Ertz. Pass.

Wow! That changes a lot! I can see the Bengals now selecting Kyle Pitts.

Agree that Ertz is a downgrade from Henry and Smith - but he's also an upgrade from anything we have or have had in years.  And there's no help coming in the draft unless we somehow move up to take Pitts, but we'd have to give up serious draft equity to go from 25 to likely inside the top ten.

Yes,  pass the ball to Ertz! Maybe not at the top of his career, but would be the best TE this team has seen in  long time. And draft Freiermuth too.

Tonyan is still a player than intrigues me, 586 yards and 11 TDs is nice, but giving up a 2nd is a big ask though we certainly have the capital to do it.

The highest pick I give for Ertz, a 30 year old TE, is a 5th and that is if his contract is less than 10 mil a year. There's little chance that I give up a 4 unless I am mid draft and find out that he is a much better alternative to any player that I can pick in that round. There is NO WAY I give up a 1, 2, or a 3 for him.

Yes, Ertz is probably traded after the draft to some team that figure their TE room isn't good enough. That could be the Jaguars. Probably for a higher pick than we want.

The entire league knows we need TE help. The entire league knows we have a lot of picks and feel entitled to overcharge. They are going to hold us hostage requiring much more (picks) than a player is worth. I would at that point pass on these deals. I believe the Bills made a run at Ertz but Philly wanted more than Buffalo would give up. We have a good blocking TE now and a lot of draft picks. Wait there is a long time before the season begins. The only thing being in a rush has done for me is cost me money and pain.
