Jags and Free Agency

Paying Lindsay and Hyde? No thanks. If the Jags hadn’t signed Hyde, I would be all for it but paying Lindsay in addition to Hyde doesn’t make too much sense.
Won’t matter though. I doubt he comes here to be the 3rd back. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The Carlos Hyde signing makes no sense at all. I still don't think he makes the final roster. Gimme Lindsay over Hyde 7 days a week.

Your backup...you want someone similar in the skillset to your starter. Robinson is a big, strong runner. You build your offense based on that so you want a backup of the same style in case he gets hurt, you won't have to change your game plan. Lindsey is a change of pace, different type back. Does Hyde's 2m gtd contract really prevent us from bringing in more (better) talent?

If the plan were to spend $2m then bring in somebody better, why not just roll that $2m into that better player. It's pretty much like spending $100 on a iphone 6 while you are shopping around for an iphone 7. They both suck and it's even dumber to buy one while shopping for an upgrade. (03-18-2021, 11:36 AM)Kane Wrote:Yes. Does it prevent them from drafting someone in say the 4th round to be a change of pace back? No.(03-18-2021, 11:12 AM)Cleatwood Wrote: Agree. It's the same situation in Denver but probably worse. He would have to share the best with 2 other backs here just like in Denver. Maybe he goes somewhere like Atlanta or Seattle where he will get more snaps. (03-18-2021, 11:49 AM)HURRICANE!!! J Rob is super cheap on an UDFA rookie deal. Not like we have a bunch of money in the RB room. Looking at some RB contracts around the league I wouldn't be mad at throwing a modest deal at Lindsay and having Hyde as a $2m 3rd back (Think Mostert and Coleman with the 9ers.) I was speaking basically just about the finances of it. And the idea that Hyde should prevent us from wanting a guy like Lindsay. I don't think he'd sign here without us overpaying. Seattle is interesting for sure. Maybe Tampa if they let Lenny walk (I haven't heard anything about him recently other than Seattle was looking at him maybe) We show less advertisements to registered users. Lindsay has been a truly dynamic RB in his first 3 seasons. However, this past season, his 4th, was injury riddled. In week 1 he suffered turf toe that kept him out 5 games, then a concussion in week 7, then a knee injury in week 12, and finally a hip injury shortly thereafter. Denver placed him on IR with 2 games to play, to limit him from any more damage and to begin healing. After week 7, he was just not the dynamic back that he had displayed prior to the injury(ies). Teams are going to be reluctant to give him a long term deal because of this last season. He would be a perfect guy to bring him in on a short term deal and give him a more limited 3rd down role. I think it would be a 'win' for both parties. Lindsay is a 5'8" back, that is just not built to be a workhorse in this league, if he wants to prolong his career (and earnings).
Carlos Hyde is a very different back, more of a true early downs power backup to Robinson. (03-18-2021, 12:01 PM)Kane Wrote:(03-18-2021, 11:49 AM)HURRICANE!!! Wrote: Pretty much. In addition to the Seahawks ( and Bucs ), the Patriots reportedly have interest in signing Leonard Fournette. Bill Belichick certainly has been aggressive overall in Free Agency this week. Obviously, he upgrades the roster, but I was concerned that this might be it at tight end. I like O'Shaugnessy for depth, but not as the primary starter. Although you can keep four tight ends, teams usually keep three and that would be O'Shaugnessy, Manhertz and Oliver. By trading Oliver, it says to me that they are still looking in free agency or the draft for someone better. The roster spot argument is ridiculous. We're not under 53 roster limit right now. Besides, injuries are the biggest concern with Oliver. If he's injured again, players on injured reserve don't count as a roster spot. You then have to remember that the pick we're getting is conditional. That means if he doesn't make the Ravens, we get absolutely nothing. In simplistic terms, there's two scenarios here: Oliver is Bad: In this case, we get NOTHING. Oliver is Good: We gave up an early 3rd rounder at a position of desperate need for a very late 7th rounder. This is a classic case of heads we tie, tails we lose. If you think that's a good bet, Las Vegas casinos would love you.

If Tom Brady was still with the Pats, my view would be different. Brady has the ability to get players around him to be focused on the field and in meetings. With Brady long gone from New England, I would be surprised if Agholor remains focused. He likely will a prime salary cap casualty candidate in 2022.
