I think Mark Long summarized it pretty well on the Bold Take Pod a month or two ago. Shad doesn't know football very well and isn't well connected with the other owners or even many good football minds. He had no clue that Baalke's reputation was as bad as it is, and he was shocked when he learned that the entirety of the sport hates him.

The real question is now that Shad finally knows that literally every owner, front office worker, coach, player, agent, and fan hates Baalke why he is still stubbornly standing by him.

Because nobody was looking out for him. So, his pride and ego will now not allow him to accept this universally accepted idea and belief about Baalke.

And so castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually.

If they wait to interview o Donnell and he then signs with the vikes, then you either start over with the pedersons of the world, or just roll with bevell/Cullen. It would be a cheaper placeholder till next yr. Of course, the loss of ticket sales would offset the savings.

In regards to Adrian Wilson, I find it concerning that the Jaguars have not requested permission to interview him.  They are doing due diligence but no interview?  There's also not even a hint that they've reached out to interview any other GM candidate which would be required under the Rooney rule.  Given this, I don't understand how anyone thinks Wilson could be announced tomorrow as the new GM.  Best case scenario is that they announce Leftwich and say that he has been given permission to pick the next GM.  It's not impossible, but I think that is wishful thinking.  The Jaguars seeking permission to interview Kevin O'Connell suggests that they are still searching. 

How do we know they haven't requested permission to interview him?  Because on the Pat McAfee show Rappaport reported a rumor he heard?  Seems completely at odds with the guy who works for the Cardinals saying Wilson got the job.  Clearly one of the two is completely wrong but who should we believe more?  Maybe neither is "wrong" per se but one of them is just being used to drive a narrative and create negotiating leverage.  There obviously isn't a right answer as there isn't a way any of us could know.  

While I agree it is odd that we haven't heard about them reaching out to another minority to comply with the rooney rule.  But I also find it odd we haven't heard anything about us moving on from Leftwich whether it be from our camp or his.  Clearly the only thing we know for sure is they have finally done a great job of preventing leaks from escaping.

I think it's pretty clear that the Cardinals' reporter was wrong.  If Leftwich/Wilson was a done deal days ago, why would the team request permission to interview Kevin O'Connell?  My guess is that Leftwich told Wilson that he got the Jaguars job and he definitely wanted Wilson to be the GM.  He probably told him "the job is yours".  The problem is that it isn't Byron's job to give.  The Jaguars didn't consent to Byron picking the GM.  

I don't find anything odd about us not hearing anything about moving on from Leftwich.  The team hasn't mentioned that they have moved on from anyone, so why would they start now?  As for Leftwich, it's in his best interest to keep people thinking that he's under consideration for the Jaguars job.  It's leverage if he gets offered a job with another team.  It can also be used as leverage to get a better deal for staying in Tampa.

In regards to permission to interview Wilson, why wouldn't we know like every other head coach and GM candidate?  It's strange that we know about Kevin O'Connell, but the Wilson permission is a highly guarded secret.  I find it far more likely that the Jaguars simply didn't seek it.  I see no evidence that the Jaguars asked permission to interview him, no evidence that they actually interviewed him and no evidence that they made any effort to interview anyone else which would be needed to satisfy the Rooney rule.  I hope I'm wrong, but I see very little reason for optimism here.

Khan didn't expect that candidates would refuse because of Baalke, they were proceeding like everything was fine there. Now it's probably too late to make the change and we're going to have another Meyer-like catastrophe on our hands.

You can't tell me a business man such as Khan was this foolish. You don't need to know football to know a snake when you see one. If he really is THAT stupid, I wanna know who really made him his billions...

At some point someone put some info out about the business and it didn't shine a great light on him. Sounded like a lot of board rooms with incompetence tolerated because of friendships and taking success of someone doing the work as their own.

Don't know if any of it is true but it makes sense with his hiring decisions so far.

With the team out of playoff contention, Bevell stepped in and started to turn things around. The players didn't give up, started to have fun and produced 2 wins, albeit the refs took one of those away by not reviewing Marvin's TD against the Jets.
And as of this point, the entire coaching staff can be retained. Cullen has an interview scheduled with Indy, but no offer yet. Keep Schotty and some of the position coaches.

And to reiterate -- Super Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford would have stayed in Detroit this year had Bevell been given the head job over Dan Campbell. Think about that for a minute when you consider whether Trevor would be in good hands.

With conditions as bad you say do you really want a coach leading this time who cared more about his pay check than the team and standing up and speaking out against what was happening, that doesn’t sound like a leader to me. How could listen to him in a meeting preaching team first knowing he did nothing to stop what was going on last season

How do you know that he didn't stand up for the players in the lockeroom and meeting rooms? Maybe that's why Meyer went over the top with his "you are losers" comment to the staff. Perhaps it was a full-blown mutiny by then and Urban was flailing to save face, creating a "you vs. me" caustic environment
Obviously the way the players responded to Bevell and Co., the respect level was soaring.

I think I finally figured out the most likely scenario.  Covers all the bases. 

This past week, Shad has been really working Leftwich and his agent to cave and work with Baalke.  It goes like this:

SK: do you like Trent?
BL: I do not like Trent. I do not like Trent Baalke

SK: would you work with Trent here or there?
BL:  I will not work with him here or there, I will not work with him anywhere.
SK:would you work with him in a box or with a fox?
BL: not in a box, not with a fox, not here or there or anywhere. I do not like Trent
SK:would you could you in a car?

It goes on and on. 

By the end of the talks Byron finally realizes he likes Trent Baalke.  And we’re screwed again

Shad is going to announce a new and innovative approach. "We will revolutionize the NFL by introducing the concept of no coaching staff. That's right, the players will be in charge of running their own practices and game day play calls will be determined by electronic polling (for a nominal charge) of fans in the stadium. Apps will be available soon."
