If you think this society and this republic can last even a week with everyone acting out of the detached cynicism you just expressed, you're the naive one.

Of course they don't always act in my best interest. They usually don't. My interests are very particular to me. But they often work in the best interest of the society as a whole. And when they don't they're usually smart enough to make it look like they are.
