There is a Scottish former pro cyclist who does commentary alongside sports broadcasters on Eurosport during the road cycling season. He's well spoken and very knowledgeable due to also being a director/manager of a team after he retired from the peloton, but oh. my. word. he says kind of in every 2-3 sentences he speaks. Initially it drove me nuts but his perspective as a former rider and former team manager makes up for it. If you drank a shot of liquor every time he says kind of you would be completely hammered in the first half hour of a race. If you made it to the end of the race without being hospitalized it would be a miracle. Liver failure by the end of the season would be pretty much guaranteed if he worked even 1/3 of the races. Lol.

I think I am guilty of a similar thing. I tend to use the word "just" a lot. "We just need to do this." "If they would just do that." I tend to use it as a verb modifier. But it's not really modifying anything. "If I could just stop doing that." "It's just verbosity on my part." "If we could just get a new GM and HC." I'm starting to notice that I do that a lot.

I basically kind of get what you are saying, you know? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Removing "basically" renders "exactly" redundant. "This" is specific and unequivocal, requiring no further elucidation, as opposed to "kind of like this". You need to do this.

I keep reading articles like "Tesla to Recall 700,000 Cars." Which sounds like Tesla owners will have to bring in their cars to get them fixed. It's a "recall," right?
Then inside the article they tell you the problem is going to fixed by an over-the-air software update. https://apnews.com/article/tesla-musk-re...ba0bda0549

When an athlete responds to a female reporter with, "Uh, yeah, man..."
The University of Kentucky used to require their basketball players to take a course in public speaking. It benefitted both the university and the athlete. But, yeah, man, they stopped that practice years ago.
Kind of annoyed none of todays new years day college playoff games are on regular tv. Only espn. The trend has gotten worse now.

Having to use an app for a deal at a fast food joint. Cmon man.
I would only rarely go on a whim if something sounded good or a good deal, but the app req basically alienates me again. Just not going to do it. Fast food is sealing its own grave imo. I realize i am probably not their target mkt however i think the app thing is driving even more ppl not to go.

I had a fasting blood test recently and the closest place to get food and coffee afterwards was a Starbucks. I went in and realized I would have to 'stand in line' behind a bunch of app orders from people who weren't even there so I left. If you can't serve someone standing right in front of you before 10 people who aren't even there you won't get my business. I'm not downloading an app for something I might use a few times a year.

A new pet peeve at restaurants. How is ‘absolutely’ a proper response to ‘thank you’?

The overhead bins fill up quickly and it’s amazing how much is packed into them. Miniaturized steamer trunks. Back when I traveled routinely for work, I could see it becoming more of an issue. Nah man. Some people like me are usually able to travel light so they don't have to go to baggage claim. This would unfairly penalize those and it would also entice people to pack more weight onto the plane in their free larger checked bag instead of making smarter and more efficient packing decisions and it would probably increase ticket prices for everyone as a result. I don't fly a ton, but I've never not been able to find overhead space when I fly and I'm usually in the last group to board because I'm cheap and almost always shop on price. They should just enforce overhead bin limitations per seat. People that try to put their personal item up there should be forced to either hold onto it or put it under the seat in front of them. Fly Southwest if you want the free checked bags... you'll notice they're usually higher on price on comparable direct flights so you're essentially paying for that checked bag whether you want it or not. I spoke with my supplier today. There's a shipment of Girl Scout cookies coming in Friday.
