Bortles - Progress & Inconsistency - Merged Threads

In 2015, staticially he was one of the best, but why was the regress so bad the following year? Was 2015 a fluke? Or was it garbage possessions? Ive seen all the games in 2015 and it doesnt seem as you guys were down by a whole lot to suggest that Bortles benefitted from garbage time stats? I just want more an insight on this matter.

I loved to see the Jags not relying on the isolation routes, and not getting separation. The TD pass to Lee was a rub route, and there were many other rub routes used in the game. They did create separation with these routes, and produced a number of successful 3rd down conversions with their usage. Blake is good at hitting the 5-10 yard passes with open receivers that these routes were giving him. Good job to the OC, in additional to Blake and the players.

Agreed.  I think the approach they've taken in handling Bortles this year has taken a lot of pressure off of him.  The play calling has really benefited him, and over the past couple of games with Fournette sidelined, they've really done a good job of calling plays that play to Blake's strengths.  They should have been doing this all along.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I was finally able to re-watch the game. Blake IMO had his best game ever this past weekend. Trust is a marvelous thing, and watching him grow this season as he, the coaches, the line and all of his teammates learn to trust in each other has been a pleasure to watch. I am sure there will be a hick-up or two along the way but unlike in years past everyone seems to learn from them.

Is this the I was wrong BB5 part 2 thread? I'm skeptical by nature and will keep playing the wait and see game. I think he is playing better and that is undeniable but it is on the coaches to keep churning out positive play calling going forward.

Trailed panthers for three quarters
trailed NE entire game
trailed TB for 2.5 quarters
trailed houston 2 quarters
trailed jets for 3.5 quarters
trailed baltimore half of the game

This goes on and on.
But I don't have time to continue the list for you.

Its a fairly simple concept. When down on the scoreboard the OC very frequently abandoned the struggling run game and let Bortles attempt a high number of passes. That inflated his stats.

Look who is trying to make his way into the QB rankings

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...tles-found

MOVING UP

Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars: It's happening. After four straight seasons of offseason hype, the Jaguars are in position to make the playoffs. Bortles is not the main reason why it's happening, but offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has done a great job building the passing game around Bortles' limitations. The much-maligned QB threw the ball 27 times in the first half against Cincinnati, and has shown better consistency with his short tosses, pocket movement and repeating his mechanics. Bortles arguing with his coach because he wanted to score more points in garbage time with the team ahead is very 2017.

On a side note, I was listening to Bortles' press conference from yesterday and I find it funny that he calls his (ex)coaches "Gus" and "Doug" but when referring Coughlin he calls him "Coach Coughlin"

2 Lombardi Trophies will do that.  I was reading fan comments on NFL boards about Ramsey and TC's support of him.  Some giant fans were calling TC a fraud and they were quickly reminded that he gave them 2 trophies.

We better win this with all these emotions I have had to endure today

Played quite well considering the conditions for the first 3 quarters and then showed he still is pretty much the same guy just with better coaching and talent around him.

God awful throw that almost went for 6 but Boston dropped it. Bad throw straight into triple coverage that got picked. Arm punt throw at the end when he could have just thrown the ball away so we could still make the field goal.

Not a guy I want having to start next year. Can do better.

Who though?  I probably wouldn't put a rook that we may draft over him.

I think the 2nd int was mainly due to longsnapper
He tried to make something happen. No way we were kicking any long field goals today.

Hes playing well. Better than mariota right now

This was not a bad performance by Blake, please stop and understand football. When you force an offense to be one dimensional it is hard for the best. Blake played well. M. Lee already cost us one game, almost two. Discipline in adversity needs to be address, I guarantee Coughlin and Marrone are hot right now.

He also threw some nice passes. That 30 yarder to cole. Also the deep passes dropped by Lee and Cole. Lewis should have caught a long pass too. He's looking pretty accurate. Also a less mobile qb would have been sacked 10 times

Bortles didn't play badly. He played well. He tied the game up with a key drive and key 2 point conversion.

Just making the point that he's still Bortles. He still throws awful turnovers at the worst times.

Aren't you the guy who said Bortles was "top dog" in the AFC south all of last year?

I'd still take Tyrod over Blake.
