Draft Talk and Offseason Moves
|
I think everyone pretty much knows what I would do.
1. Pick up the 2018 option on Blake Bortles. Let him compete against a rookie QB for the starting job in 2018 and then decide what to do in 2019. 2. Re-Sign Aaron Colvin. 3. Cut Chris Ivory 4. Don't pick up the option on Marcedes Lewis. 5. Offer Poz and Omameh 1 year deals with no guarantees to be starters. See if they accept. 6. Sign QB Chase Daniel to be the primary backup. 7. Kick the tires on WR John Brown. See what he wants and if he is affordable, sign him to a modest contract. 8. Kick the tires on OG's Zach Fulton and Kenny Wiggins. If we can land them on the cheap, they provide depth and competition on the Offensive interior. 9. Kick the tires on Linebackers Kelvin Sheppard and Mason Foster. If we can get one or both to reasonable contracts, they would provide much needed depth at linebacker. 10. Kick the tires on CB's Rashaan Melvin and Phillip Gaines. Offer them backup contracts for depth. 11. Kick the tires on Safety Bradley McDougle. See if he'll accept a backup contract to provide depth. I then go into the draft....... 13. Use the #29 pick on a QB (Rosen, Mayfield or more likely, Mason Rudolph.) If it appears that all 3 might be gone by our pick, move up a few spots to get one. Make 2018 an all out QB competition. 14. Use the 2nd round pick to target either a TE or a road grading OG. My targets in round 2 would be Mark Andrews, Dallas Goedert, Billy Price, Will Hernandez, Frank Ragnow, Isaiah Wynn or Braden Smith. 15. Whatever position you did not get in round 2, I go after in round 3. My targets would be Mason Cole, Will Clapp, K.J. Malone, Troy Fumagalli and Ian Thomas. 16. In round 4, I target a WR. Grab the best available big target that falls here. 17. In rounds 6 and 7, take the BAP, focusing on Linebacker, Safety and an OG/OT. 18. Use UDFA to focus on filling out roster, emphasizing RB, O-Line depth and WR, TE, LB and CB competition and any top players left on our board. We show less advertisements to registered users. His accuracy is off and he's completely erratic. He's a Blake Bortles clone, so he wouldn't provide real competition. It would be a lateral move.

Look, I'm sure you didn't consciously do this, but you basically skipped over what I wrote, then took the liberty of re-defining my arguement for me and then proceeded to debate against that definition. What do you even need me for in this discussion? Like I said, I have no desire to discuss BAP vs. Need. You're free to your opinion, I'm sure that there are some front office guys that agree with you. (01-24-2018, 08:18 PM)Jaguarmeister Wrote:Not at all. I just layed out how NFL teams actually draft to you. They don't just take the "best" available players on their board. It's not BAP Vs need, rather a combination of several factors.(01-24-2018, 12:47 AM)JackCity Wrote: What part do you disagree with? If by BAP you mean "the player who the front office deems to be the best combination of value, need and talent at a particular draft position" well uhhh yeah of course that's who they pick. Wouldn't Lamar Jackson be the perfect fit for the type of offense the Jags currently run? Lots of RPO and play action. Lamar in RPO with 4nette would be fun to watch. I like Baker Mayfield ahead of him, but every time I watched Lamar he seemed to just dominate. He was 100000% the offense on that team.

No. The guy is rail thin and runs too much. On top of his accuracy not being where it should be, he'd get broken in half in the NFL with all that running he does. He's like a less accurate version of Marcus Mariota who runs twice as much.

He is the closest thing to Mike Vick and what made Vick so special was his arm and that 4.25 speed. Lamar has an incredible arm and was clocked last year at 4.34. Lets not act like Lamar can't spin the rock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQiqX00kBnI We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! With guys like Benn and some rookies fighting for a couple spots. I dunno.... doesn't have enough sizzle for me. Losing AR and Lee is assuming a lot about Cole and Westbrook (they flashed wonderfully but will they string seasons together) This would leave me wanting for a WR in rounds 1 or 2. Which pushes TE and OL down the list... Unless we sign a FA like Landry I suppose. I guess if we sign Landry and Trey Burton, that would leave us available to move more freely within the draft to address OL sooner, or QB perhaps... Here's my thing about Jackson... In his 2nd season as starter he had more rushing attempts than pass attempts. In his 3rd season, only 24 more pass attempts than rush attempts. Completion % has never been over 60. The college system he played in VS the NFL system he will play in. And in my opinion all of this adds up to him being a bit of a project. We just went through Bortles 4 year first round QB project... do we really want to select another project type QB in the first round? If Jackson slips to the bottom of 2, I would select him there. The only first round QBs I like are Rudolph, Rosen and Mayfield... and I suspect they are all gone by 29. I think he gets tagged and at 16.5 mil (est) it's not a hard decision at all. Lee walks, Hurns cut or restructure. WR corp of AR15, Westbrook, Cole, and a rookie or cheap veteran (Hurns if he restructures). That's my ideal scenario. I failed to make clear what I outlined above was the bare minimum. That is my fault. If there is somehow a stud RT sitting there at 29, absolutely he should get strong consideration there. I think the WRs corps is okay assuming AR15 is brought back and is healthy. I would add another if Hurns is not brought back. All of this presumes Marqise Lee is gone. The above presumes that Jalen Myrick is promoted to replace Colvin at nickel back. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

WR's very rarely do, after that kind of injury. To think he'll be back and immediately fall into is 2015 form is unrealistic. Lamar was reading defenses, going through progressions, and taking under center and play action more than any of the other top QB prospects in this draft. In addition to the lack of skill talent on that team, Lamar put Louisville on his back. His WR's and RB's were hot garbage. He's certainly not the most polished QB prospect but he probably has the most upside out of all the QB prospects coming out this year.
