Draft rumors

I love Mayfield, but dumb. They should take saquon at 1 and then whatever QB they want/can at 4....but as someone said before....browns gonna brown.

Imagine if someone like Derwin James or minkah Fitzpatrick winds up sliding down? I feel like if the jags put one of those guys at safety with the defense we already have it would be ridiculous.

I'm assuming we go OL, TE, or QB though....but the uncertainty of this draft is exciting.

This is not how NFL teams operate. You take the QB you like the most #1.

I'll disagree there.  If they like a QB, they should take him first overall.  Waiting until 4 could potentially give them the 4th best QB and I HIGHLY doubt they have 4 guys rated equally.  You take your guy there and hope your evaluations paid off.  Taking Guice, Michel, Chubb, etc. later is perfectly fine.  At 4 they can get Chubb or a DB or something that should help their defense a lot.

Generally I'd agree but if I'm Cleveland in that circumstance and I have to have Mayfield, I take saquon and then I use the extra draft ammo they have to secure a move up from 4 to 2...(or vice versa and go Mayfield 1, saquon 2)

And the reason I say generally I'd agree because in this circumstance the disparity between the QBs is seemingly so slim, and the browns have the 1 and 4 picks. We almost never see a team in that position.

They probably dont value saquon that highly. He is a running back after all. I'd take my QB 1 and then know that I'm either getting saquon or chubb at 4. No way you can live with yourself if you're the browns GM if you take the leftover qb at 4 and the guy you had rated slightly higher went number 2 or 3 and your guy ends up busting while the guy you passed on just to secure a running back becomes a star.

You don't risk your franchise QB being taken.

Drew Brees 2.0.  Good move Browns.

Exactly.  The only way I take Barkley first overall if I'm Cleveland is because I absolutely hate all of these first round QBs and I plan on taking Chubb/Ward/Fitzpatrick/etc. at 4, which is unlikely because I think at least one of these QBs is going to be good.

Mayfield is the favourite to be taken #1 now. Woah.

Browns making a good QB move.

I'm not buying it. I still believe Darnold is going #1, but if they do take Mayfield, I like the decision. IMO, at worst, he is Doug Flutie in the later part of his career, when he found success in the NFL. At best, he is the next Drew Brees, as long as they keep him protected.

True, if they don't value saquon that high then it's all moot anyway. Just basing it on perceived draft value.

He is viewing it from the Lions point of view in stating a DT/OL would be there at 29 if they would trade back...

 Thank you for clarifying that.

It indeed does take 2 parties to make a trade a reality.  Having said that,  I respect where TheO-LineMatters is saying from a Jaguars fan perspective,  regarding his preferred draft strategy with pick # 29.

Dolphins told Tannehill he’ll start if they draft a 1st round QB:

If Hernandez is there, it would be great!  Can you imagine adding a mauler like that?

Patriots in love with Jackson.

Unless Belichik is just mailing it in, he can’t seriously move up for Jackson. If he falls to you that’s one thing. But you can’t spend capital on a project guy. Jackson’s intriguing. But if you’re moving up it’s got to be for Darnold, Rosen, or Mayfield. Not sold on anyone else.

Can someone explain to me why people mock CBs to us? didn't they just waste a bunch of cap on DJ freaking Hayden?

To me it sounds like a McDaniels pick. So this makes me think Bill will be leaving by the time Jackson is ready to take over.

Kinda what I'm thinking.  I'm fine with drafting a CB, just makes no sense in the first round.
