He's a better QB than Tanner Lee, and will give Kessler good competition for the backup role. Not a Super Bowl move, but gives the backend roster a guy with developmental upside.

They found a guy that will compete for the #2 job who has some escapability.
After the brief Kessler stint - the F.O. probably feels mobility is a valuable quality for their back-up QB to possess.
He's got a bit of upside. They could do worse for back-up competition.
Sketchy looking velocity on a few of those sideline throws in the vid. Some of those may be INT bait against starting level corners.

I'd be a little surprised if Kessler is one the roster by the end of July.  Wouldn't be shocked if he's released much sooner.  
He had a pretty extended audition already and I really didn't see anything that would make me want to give him another chance.

I also thought Tanner Lee looked better in preseason week 4 than the preseason week 3 stuff in that McGough reel.

It's a reserve/futures contract. Basically he has a contract to show up for minicamp and offseason workouts. If they like him, they will sign him to a real contract before camp starts.

As for the minimum, the NFL minimum salary for rookies this season is $495,000, and he's still considered a rookie since he's only played in Preseason games to date. You'd have to be a 10+ year vet for your minimum salary to be north of six figures.

It's hard to judge him on those games since it was in Preseason garbage time vs 3rd and 4th stringers where he didn't appear to face any real pressure, however, it was clear that he's got a beautiful arc on his passes and at least has the ability to nail some deeper throws.

What is north of 6 figures though? All contracts have to be north of $100,000 because of the league minimum. Is he then making 7 figures? If he is, why not say 7? The statement makes no sense unless he doesn't have a full contract for next season and just has something paying him for camp.
