We're certainly overdue for a bona fide QB controversy. That we had to argue who was better between Gabbert and Henne still makes me sad.

I drove in from Alabama for the game and sat there in shock as I saw the kid make timely throw after timely throw and look like a ten year All Pro. I kept waiting for him to fall apart and show it was all smoke and mirrors, but it just kept going.

This was me watching from NC. I was like- what?! He's actually taking care of business.

After reading about Minshew's background, I have mixed thoughts on his chances for long-term success as a starter. On the positive side, he does have several good traits including excellent anticipation, leadership and intelligence. His arm strength is not great, but he usually finds a way to get the ball to his intended receivers. There are many comparisons that have been made. Case Keenum seems like one of the better ones. Keenum will never be a Hall of Famer, but he has proven that he can win when he has good talent around him. I don't believe the Brady comparison is a good one since Brady is taller and has a better arm. Drew Brees initially did not have the strongest arm, either, but was able to improve in that area. He is slightly shorter than Minshew yet will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Kurt Warner also lacked most of the tangible skills coming out of college resulting in his not even getting drafted.

Admittedly, Minshew's chances of long-term success are less than 50-50. In order to succeed, he will need the offensive line to play at a consistently high level. This is possible, but it means that Cam Robinson needs to return since I don't see Richardson being the long-term answer at left tackle. The guy played great last week, but he's better suited to replacing Cann at guard. In addition, the receivers must prove that their first game performances were not a fluke. Fournette must also stay healthy and look more like the version we saw 2 years ago. Finally, the defense MUST improve beginning this week. Tom Brady would have a hard time winning with the support the Jaguars got from their defense last week.

That's a lot needing to happen, but why can't we dream. After so many down years and disappointments at quarterback, our fans deserve something good to happen. What could possibly be better than a short, slow, 6th round draft pick with a one of a kind personality leading this team to the playoffs? At least this guy didn't have to find a job working in a supermarket after college so anything is possible.

I'm sure hoping he turns out to be a franchise QB but at this point, I'm not placing a lot of emphasis on a QB that was down 37-13 and playing against a very soft KC defense that was giving our WRs a huge cushion.

I did not see any high concentration of the routes  you mentioned. (Maybe 9 or 10 out of 25)

Neither did Chark.

Got to give him credit because he looked good. Precise, accurate, looked the part. Tom Brady was a 6th rounder, I'm just saying Smile

So I’d like to know what you guys think of him, both good and bad. Gardner’s dad Flint and my wife grew up pretty close to each other.

How he can he be II if his dad is named Flint?

His dad is Gardner Flint Minshew he is Gardner Flint Minchew II.

When you are II, it means you were named after your grandfather or someone else further down the family tree. If he were named after his father he would be a junior not a II.

I see a lot of Brees in Minshew.

Both came out of college considered undersized, weak armed, and a product of their college's system.

Brees overcame those perceived deficiencies by having great vision, a quick release, accurate throws, and uncanny anticipation.

I saw a lot of those those same traits in Minshew on Sunday.

Hopefully he can play like that consistently.

They say nothing affects him.. we shall see.

But man it did not take long for the back up to become the most popular guy in town.

6 days ago I commented how it was weird that he was the target of so much vitriol on this board. How things change in just a week.

I was so impressed by the change from preseason to week 1. McGough arguably looked a better shout but Minshew kept the O moving and making the Chiefs play the pass and that's the main thing we need him to do. Hes got the WRs to help him but they are going to have to be perfect the next few weeks. Cant have drops and not converting 3rd down.

I hope more than anything that of course the 6th round backup QB could be THE guy for the Jags but hes going to make mistakes. We have 2 HUGE division games in the next 7 days. Any good for this season rests on those 2 games. They know us and we know them.

Please football gods, give us a break, go kick the Steelers for a year.

He was doing many of the same things in pre-season too, it's not like he suddenly changed. The lineup he's playing with changed considerably though.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Only difference from preseason to last week, was guys were not dropping passes and the oline gave him some protection.

In pre-season he threw some some passes only to be dropped.
