Jalen Ramsey has asked for trade (merged)

Work-life balance. We’ve all been there before. Yes, he needs to be there for his child, but that does not excuse him from walking away from his work responsibilities for an extended period of time. A reasonable expectation is that he will be back to work next week, assuming there are no medical complications, just like the vast majority of NFL players who end up having a child born during the season.

Dude. It's a game. You need to relax. There isn't a single thing on this planet that is more important than family. Get a grip and come back to reality.

You have so many wrong talking points here it's hilarious.

1. He can't be fined game checks.
2. He needs to plan better? Do you realize how hard it is for some families to even have children?
3. You can plan all you want when it comes to having kids but sometimes, it doesn't matter.
4. You realize how bad it would look if the Jags were up in arms about a man being there for his child and family?

Again. This is a game. Yes they are paid millions of dollars but at the end of the day, it's a game and family 1000000% comes first.

1. Why not? He is missing games. When I miss work, I don't get paid.

2. People have kids every day, so much so, that the planet has too many people and a lot of perfectly good kids are out there in foster care who need families.

3. Do you really think that is the case here? Really?

4. No. I expect him to do his job and then go home to his family, just like men have done for generations.

You actually can plan for children and when you are paid millions of dollars to play a game, I expect you at work, if you are physically able. For God sakes, the man only works half a year! These games are for real and the team is paying him a lot of money to be on the field, helping win games. Again, I'm not telling SOMEONE to go back to work the day a after their kid is born. I am telling a FATHER who only lives an hour away from his home and makes A LOT of money, to go back to work. You can either chose to have kids during the season and be fined game checks or have them in the off season and receive full pay. If I am a team owner, it is my business what he does after the baby is born, because I'm paying him to be at work. If he isn't there, that is an offense that they could fine him for.

I dont think you understand how having a baby works you dont just wave a wand and BAM you're pregnant, just thought I'd let you know.

Well, um, that’s very similar to how it works.

How much time did Jalen take off for his first kid's birth?

About a week during off season camps, iirc.

I don't see the birth of a child as an excuse (like a mysterious 24 hr flu)
But I could see where people will be like "whats the next excuse"

As of now... I think Ramsey returns to Jville next Wednesday, is limited in practice and shows up to play v Panthers
Hell, in theory, he could have baby Ramsey be born today, and be back with team Saturday (unlikely I know)

I've already exhausted all the energy I'm willing to worrying about what ifs with this guy.
Ready to pour more energy into Minshew Mania and whatever happens with Ramsey happens.

It is out of our control and none of us should be so upset about the actions of some football player.
We should all take a step back and a deep breath and try to enjoy football.

I hope you're right. That would be ideal, but something tells me it won't happen this way. I just gotta wait and see. I'd expect him back sometime next week in normal circumstances, but nothing about this situation is normal.

Are you being obtuse on purpose?

I'm sure Ramsey will take responsibility and his kids wont end up in foster care.... sooooo.... whats your point?

It is amazing that you are THIS upset about Jalen Ramsey having a child in September/October.
A-MAZE-ING

How is being responsible, obtuse? The responsibility part is about the timing of the birth, because he is likely missing a game. He is a star player who is needed on the field.

Dude, you've got some wacky hot takes on this subject. Personally, this isn't the hill on which I'd choose to die.

Maybe you should tweet at him: "Hey Jalen, why didn't you wear a condom? Why didn't you consider OUR feelings as fans when you were having relations with your lady? Where's the responsibility?"
I'll play you in ping pong.

Also, there is such a thing called Paternity leave so you can miss work. The length of paternity leave is different for each career. I'm a PE teacher and I get about 3 weeks or so.

Again. This is a subject that you know very little about so it's best to not comment on it. You're "points" make zero sense.

I'd reserve all the bellyaching and hand wringing for when he doesn't show up next Tues/Wed.

At that point it is no longer about being with his newborn (barring some sort of issue that would keep him there).

As for the whole "planning better" I can't get behind ya there.......
You shag when you shag, and when the baby is due, its due.
Even for a football player entertainer I can't say "you can't shag your ol' lady if she's gonna get knocked up and have a baby in the reg season"

I mean... that's extreme bro

Condoms aren't expensive and in this day and age, you should always have one. It takes 2 seconds to put on. Saying, "you shag when you shag, and when the baby is due, it's due," is the reason why the world is overpopulated and so many kids are in the foster system. People need to be responsible and plan better.

That is job and company specific. To my knowledge paternity leave is not offered in the NFL for its players.

My boss offered me two weeks off paid when my son was born. It wasn't company policy or anything - he just felt it was the right thing to do.

Paternity leave isn't offered by the NFL. That is correct. However, they can't fine him either for missing games due to the birth.

I'm pretty pissed at the way this whole Ramsey situation has played out over the last week but some of the takes on children in this thread are...um...interesting.

I recall a player recently missing the MNF or SNF game for the birth of a child. ONE game I think is realistically acceptable during the season.
No pain, no gain.

Article on James White and quote from BB on missing game due to wife giving birth:

https://nesn.com/2019/09/james-white-exp...th-of-son/

Quote:
“I’ve coached for quite a while as a head coach in two different organizations,” the coach said in a conference call earlier this week. “I don’t think that’s ever been an issue. I’ve always talked about it with the player. It’s not like it’s a surprise. It’s something that there’s certainly a lead-up period to. (We) communicate about it, and depending on the time, the situation, the circumstances and all that, you take everything into consideration. Everybody wants to do what’s best, and we arrive at that conclusion.

“Again, there are a lot of variables on that — what the individual’s situation is with the birth, where the game is, so forth and so on. There’s a lot of things that could come into play. I think it’s just good communication and trying to find out as much information as you can. You never have all of it. Sometimes you have to call an audible, but you figure it out, and then just everybody has the best interest of everything that’s involved and try to make a good decision on that.”

White is expected to be back in the lineup this Sunday when the Patriots visit the Buffalo Bills.

Kyle Van Noy blurb who misses preseason opener as his wife was in labor:

Quote:
Van Noy's wife is in labor, explaining his scratch from Sunday's game versus the Steelers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

There was no injury or apparent reason for Van Noy's absence, so this explains why he'll sit out. Shilique Calhoun and Jamie Collins will man the outside linebacker position for this game, but Van Noy is expected to return Week 2 versus the Dolphins.

https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/footba...-of-child/

Each missed only 1 game.

The simple answer is that Oline needs to be more responsible and find a better job that allows him paid time off for the birth of his children.

How do we know it’s even Ramsey’s baby?!? Ain’t nobody in Ramsey’s family got knees like dat!! DNA test!

Hahahaha some of you guys are wild.

I think I took 2 days off but that was 20 years ago. Seems different these days and it's extremely difficult to questions a man's decisions in regards to his family.
