Gardner Flint Minshew II - (merged threads)

The rookie is looking like a rookie, what a surprise. The struggles should come to no surprise considering opponents now have tape on him and our o-line is putrid. If he can manage to get us to 4-4 and unleash Foles late season magic it’s an EASY Super Bowl win boys!

I just want to know where to get a copy of the poster drawing those Jags fans had of GM15 built like Tarzan, wearing a teal jock strap and his headband while taking down a Bengal tiger. Lol.

Do you think Foles would fare better behind this "putrid" O-line as you call it?
How well did he hold up the first game of the season?

Westbrook also dropped a TD before half time.

Have those who are calling for Foles ever watched him outside his quarter in the season opener and the Superbowl? Act like he is some stud rather than a journeyman QB

Yeah, but Foles turns it on down the stretch, he has shown that in back to back seasons, when called upon, he led the Eagles to 1 super bowl win and was a drop away from getting deep into the playoffs again.

Minshew is for sure the future. If he continues to get better, well, we are going to be set at QB for a very long time. BUT! Foles should be the guy if he is healthy due to the contract, his experience, and his level of play in big games down the stretch and into the playoffs. After we can cut ties with Foles after year 2/3 with minimal to no cap hit, young Beowulf can return to the lineup and carry this team like the franchise QB we all want him to be for this team.

Who knows what he'll turn out to be? At worst a very solid backup or just a game manager. Nothing wrong with that for a 6th round pick.

Actually, I think one of the main reasons for his struggles the last 2 games is the lack of a TE. Right now we have nobody who can be that safety blanket in the middle of the field. Maybe Josh Oliver will develop, but for next offseason I would make a priority of finding a veteran TE in free agency.

The Jets with Sam Darnold? Good.

Minshew will need to play better to beat the Jets. He was below 50% completion. Not sure why you’re over looking them.
Not overlooking the Jets. But Dallas did for sure. As the team playing tonight is clearly different and prepared against a divisional rival.

They're still a 1 - 4 club. And they'll be coming here on a short week after they play the Patriots on MNF. I like the way we're running on offense and playing defense.

The Jets are still average on offense. Average on defense. I think as Minshew heals up his accuracy will pick back up as well. I think he'll have a cleaner game this next Sunday coming up. It'll probably look a lot like that TNF game against the tacks.

My point (after you said If Minshew plays like this they will win by at least 6) is that he needs to play better in order to beat the Jets. The Bengals have the absolute worst secondary in football and yet Minshew completed below 50%. He also had about 3 interceptions dropped because the defender had a cast on his right arm.

The Jets offense is also better with Darnold so while the defense played very good in the 2nd half, they got beat by some dude named Erickson and if it weren't for Dalton being himself, this game would have been a lot tighter.

So while I agree the Jags SHOULD win the Jets game, basing it off of the Bengals game is fools gold. Minshew needs to play better. Herndon has to play better and the Oline must pass protect better.

The team needs to play better. They are all very young overall. Dalton sure did gift wrap the game for us but that happens sometimes.

Give him the rest of the season, we need as much of a sample as possible going into the draft. There are going to be a bunch of good QB prospects that we will be in position to get and it would be a shame if we pass on them because Minshew looked pretty solid in a half a season sample. Lets be honest we know we aren't going to be making any real noise this year, let's see as much of the kid as possible.

Draft another QB?  Cmon man.  If they take him out than Foles is the guy and Minshew will learn behind Foles .  Minshew is setting rookie records behind a shaky oline and no TE.  The guy was thrown into the fire and excelled. Didnt you want Haskins?  Did you see what happen when the Skins gave him a chance? Looked like trash and got benched the following game, even the coaching staff admits he isnt ready.  So the Skins should draft another QB since the one they just drafted in the first looked like garbage?  And Minshew has looked far from that.

Would be the worst move the team could would make since drafting Gabbert if they take a QB in the first with Minshew and Foles here instead of building around one of them and filling a few holes on the defense

So you’re set on Minshew after 6 starts?

I love Minshew but it’s ok to question if he’s the long term answer. The reason the poster brought this up had to do with next years QB class. It looks pretty good with Tua, Herbert and Burrow.

If Haskins actually gets good coaching, I think he will be just fine. The Skins organization is set up to fail just about any QB. If Minshew was on there, he would probably perform just as poorly.

The team your drafted to is so much more important than where you’re drafted in the draft.

You can rarely ever tell how good a QB is going to be from a rookies first 6 starts.  So you think Haskins will be just fine but you question Minshew? Minshew has actually showed he can do it at an NFL level Haskins threw 2 picks and got benched the next game, Gruden is a decent offinsive mind, they have Haskins WR from college that is setting rookie records and our oline isnt any better than theirs.  They also have a better TE group even with Reed out. What is happening to their team is what happens when you have poor QB play. One of the reasons Gruden wanted out is because he didnt want Haskins and so far it showed why with his play.  He has to look pretty bad in practice if he cant earn the job from whats out there right now. I honestly dont think that QB class is all that good.  Tua has the best WRs in the nation and always has all day to throw.  When he has pressure like he did in the championship game he is pretty bad and he will see a bunch of that in the pros and his WRs wont be that much better than the DBs when he goes pro.  I do think Burrow will be good though. We need to build around the 2 good QBs we have and try to give these guys some help.

Jets gave up a 16 play drive. Looked horrible on 3rd downs. It's New England though. Lots of quick plays all over the place.

Some potential opportunities with Fournette in the receiving game this Sunday.

New England's defense looks like our 2017 defense this year.

Brady is quick, but he looks comfortable back there and I think he knows he can hang on the ball just a little longer cus his Oline is allowed to hold

I was hoping that the Jets would go to Jax really beat up after getting into a slugfest with NE, but since they’re getting blown out they will probably just rest and be ready to move on to their next game
