Dareus to IR (merged) - Akeem Spence Signed

#41

Hmm. Sucks about Dareus but im cautiously optimistic about Bryan. He's showed up the past few weeks. Maybe the switch has flipped. Spence is a big body that has experience. Hopefully they can man up and plug the middle. Bryan can hopefully use that "Wyoming Wildman" strength the collapse the pocket. Ryan Kalil has looked ABYSMAL at Center, Osemele is apparently disagreeing with the team Docs, and the whole line is ranked 30th in pass pro/31st in run pro per football outsiders. Hopefully Yan, Calais, Josh, Taven, Dawuane can FEAST on Sunday.

Probably closer to the 6 week mark, and then getting him fully game ready would take him closer to the end of the season.
And another injury in game to the DL and we'd be in trouble so we needed the body/roster spot, I'm guessing.

I think Dareus has played his last down as a Jaguar unfortunately. (Unless he restructures)

If he's "designated to return" he'll be ready for week 17 and the postseason run.  Big Grin

Oh, didn't think about that.

I'm quite positive that teams can bring back 2 players from IR.

He has to be on IR for 8 weeks to be able to return.  So I think you are correct about him coming back for week 17.

If we aren't in the playoffs at that point, I would say he's played his last game for us.

Dareus would cost $2.5M if cut during the offseason...and $22.5M to keep under his current contract. Seems very unlikely that he would return at this point, but who knows? If the Jags make him an offer to restructure and his agent hears that other teams aren't willing to pay him much more than that, maybe he comes back, but I'd have to imagine he holds a ton of value for 3-4 teams that need a stout nose tackle.

I don't know that the plan for Bryan was to have him replace Dareus in particular, and scouting reports on Bryan from pre-2018 draft say that he isn't exactly the best DT out there against the inside run. Assuming Dareus doesn't return, I wouldn't be surprised to see our first three picks next year look something like OL, CB, DT in some order.

Wouldn't surprise me if the team looks into trading for Leonard Williams after this game. We know the team has a philosophical commitment to keeping that D-line stacked. Acquiring Williams could be a big boost short and long term for us.

That said, I have no idea what the price would be, or the contract ramifications. And I'm too lazy to google it.

Nah, I just get the feeling that if they were looking to trade for a DL, they would have done so before putting Dareus on IR.

They have picks to use on a NT in the upcoming draft. I don't know if a trade is the way to do it.
I'd prefer a rookie contract for the next few years.

My guess is Marcel has played his last game as a Jag. Good player.

Nose tackles really aren’t that hard to find. He’s definitely not back on 20 million. If he’s willing to bring that yearly amount down to a third of that he may be in line for a return. Otherwise I’d look towards the draft.

He is in the last year of his contract.  I don't like trading draft picks PLUS a big contract to land a player.  We'd have to sign him to a new contract.  And probably trade some draft picks.

Really good ones who can help cover poor ILB play against the run, are really hard to find. That's the kind we need.

Goodbye big man! You were one of our most consistent players. Who ever we get to replace him will have big shoes to fill.

Felt pretty good about this game. Now I am feeling a lot different with Dareus and three LB's out. Could be a long day with Bell now if they're not careful with their assignments and if Wash doesn't scheme up against Gase carefully as well.

They better give the big man a pass on that weed [BLEEP] now. Doesn't seem to hurt his game if he's a recreational user and if anything. . . he gunna' need it now!
