The transition tag is definitely the way to go.

I disagree...  If we use the transition tag, we will lose Yan with no compensation.  Someone with cap room will sign him in a way that his cap hit this year will make it impossible for us to match.  A big first year roster bonus would be all it would take.  Unlike a signing bonus that is spread out over the life of the contract, a roster bonus hits all at once in that year.

The jags have the cap space to match any realistic offer that can be presented currently. And that’s not including the pending roster cuts of Lee and Swaim.

Also to tag and trade, you are assuming Yan will actually sign the tag AND be ok with going to the other team. If he doesn’t like the team we’re trading him to, he could refuse to sign, refuse to report to the other team and nix the trade.

There's no way we don't use a tag of some sort on Yan. We're probably shopping him, if we get no realistic offers, we could use the transition tag and let someone else do the work but I still think the franchise tag and trade (or franchise and play) option is what we'll see.

If he refuses to sign it, I see if he sits. If he does he only hurts his stock imo. Even if he shows up at week 10 and signs it, he isn't putting together a good resume, other players enter the market (rookie stars, other FAs, which lessens his value the next year) and it's a bad look.
I don't think Bell won when he sat a year (as arguably the best back in the league) and ended up on the Jets and is now a fringe top 5 RB (maybe even lower).

If Yan wants to get paid he'll sign the tag and accept the trade or sign and play (or sign a long term deal).
If he wants to play hardball, he'll lose in the long run of the Not For Long league.

He didn't play a full season and was injured to start the season. When the Jags get big plays on defense, it is because of Yan. He is a play maker. Play makers don't grow on trees.

Nagkoue only missed 1 game, he did play AND START in all others.
If what you are saying was true, all teams, including the jags, wouldn't hesitate on giving him more than 20 millions per season, yet the rumor is other teams don't wanna pay him more than what the Jags are offering

As with us, Fowler got an exceeding amount of unblocked and clean up plays. Yannick is a far better pass rusher, good enough that teams actually have to account for him.

People forget he started out injured last year and still had a very solid season. Plus players aren't paid for what they have done, they are paid for what they are projected to do and Yan is definitely ascending.

When I look at Yan, I look at more than the numbers. He is just a play maker. When we need a sack or a turn over, he is our guy. People forget he started out injured last year and still had a very solid season. Plus players aren't paid for what they have done, they are paid for what they are projected to do and Yan is definitely ascending.

We needed him badly vs the Patriots and he did absolutely nothing, not even a tackle. Fowler on the other hand sacked Brady.

Yannick is a good Sack Specialist. I like the guy but he isn't a complete player and not worth $22million a year. IF another team pays him that, good luck. You don't win in this league paying specialist $20 million +

I agree with this. Remember the Alex Mack contract? The Browns matched, but he was a free agent again after two seasons.
