Update on our situation:

My wife just got re-tested this morning at St. Vincent's because her PCP told her that if she's fully recovered, healthcare providers and scientists are in great need of plasma from both recovered or immune individuals. She took a swab again. Good news - if you've tested positive previously, they now have the capacity to cross-reference new samples with old ones and provide a relatively quick result (30-60 minutes). Bad news - she's still positive for CV19.

More frustrating than anything else right now. You can tell yourself that you should be thankful till you're blue in the face, but not knowing exactly when/how it was contracted in the first place. So if/when she feels fatigued or short of breath again, is it due to CV19, or just stress? Hard not knowing where she is in the whole process, even though we're assuming she's in recovery. Plus the added first-world guilt of feeling a certain way knowing that thousands have died already and thousands more will die soon enough.

PCP told her to go back again 1 week from now.

Wow that must be tough, I am glad she is doing well, and I applaud your desire to try and help others.

For the most part, those earning money are concerned where our tax dollars go.  And most of them are upset that they pay for others working the system.  Those less fortunate for legitimate reasons, ok.  Take it.  We don’t mind.  

Yes, there is a lot of great things that America and it’s citizens provide. All those you’ve included, which one of those brought you here, BTW.   But there are so many more things we offer, create, make and do that far exceed those three things you’ve listed.  Don’t pretend you know us based off news stories.  We may be a rough, rag tag group made up of many different types of people. But that’s kinda what found our country.  And we enjoy and love it, and defend it.

According to the article, they've always had mass graves on Hart Island to accommodate burial of the indigent and those without families. They're just doing it at a faster rate because the medical examiner's office is holding the bodies for less time.  New York City, a high density population area, is logically suffering the effects of a pandemic more than other places. Thus, um, America sucks?

They're rolling out those studies as we speak.

And my point is even people I used to respect but wont name (Dawn Smannity) are floating the idea of people being tested multiple times a week or every day.  If you tested a million people a day it would take a full year. You'd have a false positive population bigger than Kansas nd a false negative population bigger than the active rosters o the NFL, NBA, and MLB Combied!!!

Exactly.  Testing is key to diagnostics and containment but it will never be perfect and we need to prepare people that there is no UTOPIAN solution, just Safe solutions.

The antibody test shows whether or not you were exposed and overcame the virus. A positive antibody test means you are now immune with no further test needed. (at least in theory, there are supposedly cases in South Korea of people who have re-acquired the disease)

As Marty said, if you test a random sample and a large percentage of people with no symptoms test positive with antibodies, that implies the virus is not nearly as deadly as feared. If so we could go back to normal social habits and end the misery and economic destruction. Of course a very low percentage of people with antibodies would imply the opposite. But considering the cost we are paying by the lockdown, this random testing should be done ASAP in the chance it might give a desired result.
