I'm old enough to remember drive-through liquor stores here in Jacksonville, where you could order a cocktail at the drive-through, and they'd hand you a mixed drink that you could consume while you were driving.  No top on it or anything.

Definitely one of those "What were they thinking?" moments.

Are they all gone?  There was one in Orange Park, on the corner of Park and Eldridge, right off the throughway exit.  I haven't been in that area in a while, but I thought it was still in business a couple years ago.

Ha, thanks but I'm not so sure about that. The rated bots are definitely harder then the computer games I was playing. Kinda struggling with a 1300 bot. Had him dead to rights twice, and he managed work out of it both times.

Haha.  You'll get the hang of it.  I think you're a better player than I am, and I eventually got the hang of playing the bots in the 1300 range.   

The way I usually beat them is to get a pawn or two up on them and trade down to the end game.  The bots are usually terrible at end games for some reason.   With a rook and 6 pawns vs a rook and 5 or 6 pawns I can win 9 out of 10 times.   Where I fail is in the openings.  If I'm not resigning by move #12, I have a good chance.

Sometimes the bots will seem to malfunction and just throw away pieces.  This is an actual game I played as black against a bot rated 1305 at the time.  My move.  R-R8.

I've been playing level 4-5 against the bots and doing different things like attacking relentlessly or marching pawns forward, all with mixed results. I find that by doing a basic opening and controlling the center, I can sit and wait for the bot to make a dumb mistake.

Yes, that is a real position.  Of course, I didn't have to march all my pawns forward in a line like that, but I had him cornered on the back row, so I said, why not?  Then when I got into that position I said, gee I have to take a screen shot of this.  It was about a week ago.

You kind of dominated that game, I'd say. I don't know this- could you have advanced all 7 of your pawns to the 8th rank and gotten say, 7 knights? I imagine you'd be restricted to regaining just the original 2.

Great idea, so I tried it against the weakest opponent I could play, and I got as far as 6 knights, but then I accidentally stalemated it.  It's kind of hard to do because it's hard to avoid checkmating the thing, and in this case, I blundered into an accidental draw.

I found this specific bot. I can get him fairly consistently but not the other 1300 one. Something about it's style completely stymies me mid-game.

Have you named them all?    I’ve been told numerous times I have too much time on my hands to begin with.  So much useless info I can spill out with even more time on my hands.  And I don’t care what you all say about Rufus, he’s my favorite of the bunch.  If you look at him sideways and squint your eyes, he kinda looks like the Mona Lisa
