So what is your proposal? What should be done? I want to hear it.

Keep the lockdown going until you have it under control. It is guaranteed 2nd wave otherwise.

You aren't in the position of an Australia who acted much quicker and therefore are free to reopen.

Oh for [BLEEP]'s sake, have you looked at the chart? It's not accelerating, it's declining.  Rolleyes

So you want people to continue to bypass routine screenings that could be cancer indicators, continue to not collect a paycheck, and wait months for their government to send them a $1,200 check to make up for it? Not to mention, do permanent damage to the economy? You feel like that is a feasible approach?

FYI, There have been 14 COVID deaths in Florida for people between the ages of 0-34 years old.

More like we're not a [BLEEP] island most people have no interest in visiting versus being the number 1 city in the entire [BLEEP] world.

Guaranteed 2nd wave? Did the lockdown prevent 1st wave? There is zero evidence lockdowns prevent Rona. In fact, it may be quite the opposite. In any case, the lockdowns were never meant as a preventative. And what makes you think it isn't under control? Basing all your opinions off two major hotspots?

Good thing you can just keep your [BLEEP] in Australia! Right?

He's in Britain. He just uses Australia because he can't use his own country as an example.

As far as NYC, the New York government banned the use of HCQ+Z for Wuhan virus patients, and forced the spread by USING GOVERNMENT GUNS to REQUIRE nursing homes to accept patients who tested positive. Over 50% of the deaths in New York are in nursing homes. As jj pointed out that wouldn't be the case if they were allowed to set their own rules.

Not to mention that New York state has 85% of the population of Australia in 55,000 square miles compared to the island's almost 3 million squares.

But tell us again how great you are and much we suck.

The NYC response plan was to get their failing hospitals healthy on federal dollars.

Thailand had the first case outside of China. They have been aggressively treating everyone who tests positive, and those in contact with them, with HCQ. They have just 56 deaths in a country of 69 million, and their case fatality rate is 1.9% (Norway has the best in Europe at 2.7%).

Just another anecdote, right?

Very curious about this, are you able to provide a reference or link? Not being snarky, genuinely want to know

Sorry. I remember reading this a while back, but I don't remember where.

70% of deaths in pennsylvania were from nursing homes. They had the same order as NY did. And, the top health official moved her 95 year old grandparent from a ltc facility.

If ever there was a case to strip someone of their sovereign immunity!

Actually that is very misleading as Australia is one of the most urbanised countries. Everyone lives on the coast.

40 percent of the population live in the 2 biggest cities.

You don't suck, you stuffed up early just like Britain did. However now you are about to cause unnecessary deaths with early loosening of restrictions.

Don't take this all so personally.

I'd be worried about only looking after 0-34 year Olds you will be seeing a change in president shortly if that's the case!

I feel the best economic outcome is to get it under control, can't constantly have waves of the virus.

Some countries have done a lot more than $1200 cheques. But they are nasty social democratic states.

What's the average unemployment compensation under the new federal supplement?

No country can afford to give out any money. They either have to just make it up or raise taxes/cut spending.

Then you have plenty of people that are just going to sit at home until this is over with their hands out. You have plenty of people making more money than they made working and now that things are opening back up they don't have any incentive to go back to work. There are plenty of ways to help people but just giving them X amount not based on any previous pay is not the way to go.

All countries can afford to give out some money.
The ones who print their own money, like the US, can afford to give out more than the ones that peg their currency to foreign currencies. We can just print, we don't need anyone's permission.
But no country can just print out infinite money without consequences. There is a limit. If there starts to be a shortage of food or construction supplies, you will see inflation. If your country is printing a lot, but a competing country is not, your country will see inflation.
But this is a global crisis and every country is looking at printing money. And while we sadly are facing some short-term meat shortages, there doesn't appear to be any shortage of cereals and vegetables on the horizon anywhere.
We can print more money and ride this out, Don't worry
