DHS patrolling Portland in unmarked vans

So this thread started about unmarked cars dragging people off the street and we are now at anyone communist/socialist should be shot.

Wow.

As opposed to "essential" people like me that roll out of bed, drink a cup of coffee, take a shower, grab some breakfast and go to my job at "0 dark thirty" every day (Monday - Friday) and work at my place of employment.

I'm not black and never once experienced any of this "privilege" that these protestors communists are rioting about.  Nothing was given to me, I earned every bit of it (along with a hard working wife).

I feel bad for not only the owners of businesses being destroyed by these protestors communists, but also the hard working men and women that these people employ(ed).  Those are the people that are suffering the worst.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  It's time to put a stop to these protestors communists by whatever means necessary.  Put the tear gas and rubber bullets away.

of course you want that. You live in a fantasy world where the government should act as your personal army to take out protestors you disagree with, sounds quite facist

Stop using protesters interchangeably with rioters. MOST people here have no problem with protests. Here's a list of things that should probably be self-explanatory.

Don't vandalize public property.
Don't attack or intimidate citizens who disagree.
Don't try to remove citizens from their vehicles.
Don't loot businesses.
Don't burn buildings.
Don't assault agents doing their job.
Don't blind them.
Don't kill your fellow protesters.
Don't steal property from people trying to film.
Don't create your own autonomous zone

That's just a simple list I put together. If you can agree to that, I can agree to the following for the government:

Don't obstruct peaceful protests
Don't kill citizens
Don't use physical force on peaceful protesters
Don't arrest peaceful protesters
Don't use unmarked vehicles
Don't use plain clothes officers to spy on protesters
Don't enact curfews
Don't confiscate property
Don't send in federal agents

It's not the distance. It's the lack of functioning gray matter.

I agree with all those things, but I don't know who had bad behavior first.
And if it was a protester who first broke these rules, it seems pretty unfair to punish all the protesters for that one guy's bad behavior.
The whole Portland situation is obviously in some sort of spiral of escalating provocation.

I think he's right.
I was trying to point out JIB was tactically wrong, self-defeating, but shooting protesters you disagree with is also ethically wrong.

It is truly a disease. You have to understand, these people are seeing this through the lens of media outlets that aren't showing the carnage going on in these major cities. These people see this through the lens of people like Nadler who say this isn't real. These are the kind of people who have never had to make a major decision in their own lives and have never been held accountable for anything. These are sick people.

Actually I'd say the distance makes it much easier to evaluate. Because im not beholden to 40 years of party brainwashing

Would our distance make us better qualified to speak about the issues happening in your country?

Shooting rioters is heroic.

Better? That's hard to say, but different perspectives are valuable.
Someone who has read common sense by Thomas Paine might recognize that having Ireland ruled by a Parliament in London is almost as dumb as letting America be ruled by one.

Rioting is stupid and should get you killed.

well for one i didn't say i was better qualified, just easier to look at it independent of party tribalism. secondly, you are more than welcome to discuss irish political issues with me and I'd value your perspective if you follow the situation day to day. What would you like to discuss?

deflection[ dih-flek-shuh n ]

Sending Federal officers to quell protests that were limited to one city block was the initial deflection. Failing in the polls, bungling the COVID-19 response Trump gets to play the "Law and Order President" card hoping to everyone will forget the other stuff. And he eagerly falls prey to the fringe groups who commit the real violence, hijacking the peaceful BLM protests. Probably Antifah, maybe even more Umbrella Men.

All the Federal officers have done is exacerbate the situation. They aren't trained in riot or crowd control. They are wearing fatigues to makes them appear more menacing. One shot a protestor in the head with a rubber bullet because he was holding up a speaker. A Navy veteran was beaten for just trying to talk to them.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

If it's easier to evaluate for you then you're better at evaluating it.

I admittedly don't know enough about politics in Ireland, but I also know that I can't learn it all from watching TV.

that doesn't make me more qualified, just feel being free from US party tribalism makes it easier to evaluate and analyze

I don't watch any tv shows related to US news or international news
