Finland which is world renowned for having the best education system, has no fee paying schools.

That's the problem in most countries, you have poorly funded public schools while the rich can pay to get a better standard.

Sure I'm with you, kick out the nonsense of prayer etc

What prayer?

What criteria are you using for socially mobile? I agree that welfare, the way it's designed in the US, is a trap. I don't think you will find vast quantities moving out of poverty in the US, because there is no incentive to do so. Democrats crafted one of the most suffocating welfare systems in the western world. It penalizes people for working and getting married. As to other forms of social mobility, I don't imagine we have a large amount of people moving up from middle class, because it's a statistical anomaly. Middle class is the standard, with the really rich being rarities, so it wouldn't surprise me if those numbers don't change as a percentage. Generational wealth is not commonplace in the US. I'm sure some families manage to stay on top, but it's a revolving door for the most part.

Yes. A flat tax is something I've wanted for years.

Everything is always fake news with you people. The only fake news, comes from the Trump camp. Deception, deflection, distraction, denial.

Then why are you upset at Trump?  The current tax structure allows the privileged in America to take advantage of loopholes and by golly they do just that.  Every [BLEEP] in DC is doing it.  Every reporter at the NY Times is doing it.  Every lobbyist that is actually running this country is doing it.  Heck even you and I are doing it just not at the same level.

If you want to stop this behavior then the first step is to reelect nobody.  Next demand a Constitutional Amendment that every issue voted upon by congress is a single issue.  No riders, no add ons, no multiple issue bills.  One item straight up and down vote.

Speak for yourself.

So you took no deductions on your 2019 return? You dont have an IRA of some sort that offers tax deferment? You have a mortgage interest deduction? You live in Florida where we have no state income tax?

Yeah, you do it too.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you allow that social mobility might be higher in other wealthy/developed countries, depending how it's calculated.
And I'm sure you're aware that these countries' governments spend more on social welfare than ours.
So how are their welfare programs not even worse traps than what you allege ours is?

Dude I've not even raised kids and I know about what schools are teaching kids. I'm my county kids are being taught from a very early age some sort of emotional social learning (ESL) crap that is teaching them to make decisions based on emotions instead of facts or logic. I also just learned kids as young as elementary school age are being given questionnaires regarding sexual activity, suicide ideation and drug use. All of this leading up to a socialist mindset.

I was actually going to  start a discussion about it posting some of the questions posed to elementary, middle and high school students and ask if anyone else has kids in schools where this is going  on. It's truly disturbing what kids here in small town NC are being taught, I can't imagine bigger cities. I had a hard time going to sleep that night.

Greatest opportunity and social mobility in the history of the world, not even close.  When u transplant people from the Nordic countries they do better in our system.  Western Europe has been economically static for decades.

The article raised one issue that I (and apparently many others) are curious about- Trump personally owes about $400 million which is coming due within the next 4 years, while he would still be in office (if he wins). To whom does he owe that money?

Lenders?

Money is cheap these days Marty. Ever heard of leverage?  If you can use someone else's money at 3%, why use your own?

Also, who cares what is owed in 4 years. You can refinance. I do it all the time and I'm a thosand-aire.

But who does he owe the money to?   Aren't you just a little bit curious when the President of the United States owes someone $400 million, not through his companies, but personally, and we don't know who loaned him the money?  He owes someone $400 million, due while he's still in office, and we don't know who it is.

It may all be completely innocent.  I just think we should know who it is that the President owes a huge sum of money to.

No. I go to the tax guy with the form I'm sent in the mail and basically sit there until he fills out the paperwork. He ask me no questions about deductions at all. When he's done, I pay him and I don't see him for another year.

I don't even know for sure what an IRA is. The only IRA I know is the Irish Republican Army. Weren't they a terrorist group back in the late 80's/early 90's?

I don't know anything about deductions for mortgage. I just take in the paperwork that the state sends me through the mail and give it to the tax guy.

I live in Ohio.

Maybe it's because I live in Ohio and it's super conservative, but my sister is a teacher and I've seen and heard from my niece and nephew what they are being taught in school. If my sister or any of her kids' teachers gave them those kind of questionnaires or were teaching that kind of ideology, they'd be fired.

I'm not alleging a crime.   I'm saying it could be a huge conflict of interest.  Surely you can see that.   Presidents make decisions every day that affect banks, foreign countries, and everyone else.  Is it Deutsche Bank?  A Turkish bank?  A Rus.. nah, surely not that.  The Mafia?  The Yakuza?  Who does he owe money to?  Not anyone's business?  That's everyone's business.  The President of the United States owes someone a huge amount of money, and we don't know who it is!

All he has to do is disclose who loaned him the money.  That's not hard.

Ok Marty, just because I can see it's eating at you. It is me. He owes me the 400 million. I'm not pressing him for it right now because I recently hit a $1000 scratch off and sitting fat at the moment.

IRA = Individual Retirement Account.  Do you plan on living off SS when you retire? If you don't have any deductions, you would use the EZ form ... Which is really "Easy" ... Even a Caveman could do it. May look like stone carving in a cave, but he could do it.
