I'd love to have a QB like Derek Carr.

And I agree, you don't draft a guy in the first 2 rounds of the draft thinking back up, but perhaps a 2nd rounder gives you room to not rush to start him. And a veteran like Palmer gives you room to take a QB later as opposed to QB starved teams needing to take one ASAP.
I'd also say that generally speaking that draft was weak at the position overall (Teddy, Carr, Jimmy G are the only starters left from 14 QBs taken, and most are out of the league altogether) as opposed to this draft.
So perhaps they were okay with missing out on any of them and happened to luck into getting a guy they liked in round 2.

I don't disagree that there are more than one way to skin a cat so to speak... But really I think in the Raiders instance it was more lucky than good. And while I wouldn't be mad at Sewell at 2 and then gambling on QB, most fans would be livid. And I think a new GM/regime is gonna wanna put their stamp on the franchise quickly. And the easiest way to do that is with a highly touted QB in the top 2.

Lol, the best way to do that is win football games.  Not just taking a QB in the top 2.  Taking one in the top 2 does nothing if it isn't the right one and you pass up an All Pro at another position.  And as for the 14 QB class, some thought Teddy was the next Manning and Bortles went top 3 with Mack sitting there so some loved that QB class

Well that's fine and dandy but most new GMs do that very thing. Picking top 5 with a bad team, get a new QB.

Yeah bad GMs liked the QB class from 2014 lol No one in front offices thought Teddy was Manning otherwise he doesn't slide to the end of round 1. Bortles went top 5 because Caldwell. Manziel went to the Browns and is out of the league.

Wasn’t Bridgewater like 30-15 as a starter going into this season. It’s not like he has been absolutely horrible. Not a particularly high bar, but he would certainly be the best QB on this roster.

Edit: just searched a little, it was 22-12.

He's alright. Pretty average. Not a long term fixture at QB for any franchise but a solid journeyman stop gap option.

But his pre draft hype was sickening. Tank for Teddy was all over this board for sure.

He was on one of if not the best defense in the league in Min. He isnt horrible but not a guy you want to take in the first or have as a franchise QB.  Hes on his 3rd team right now and has looked decent under Sean Payton and Joe Brady. But who doesn't?  Carolina just won with dude from the XFL

I still remember TMD pounding the table and stamping his feet that Dan Lefevour was THE ONE.

He also didn't like Carr because of 'genetics'.

Hahaha you’re giving them credit for beating the 0-11 Jets on a last second heave?!

Good for you.

After [BLEEP] it up multiple times.  Against any other team or a d coord with half a brain they lose to the only winless team in the league.

I’ll give you this. Even when it’s very clear you’re wrong, you hold strong.

Raiders are the first team in NFL history to start the season 3-0 against 3 tams that won 10 games the year before. Carr is leading the league in passing 3 games in.

Rip up what? Carr has been one of the few bright spots for that team since he was drafted and another player we missed on, he proves it every year and we even coached him at the Senior Bowl.  The one thing they have had is a franchise QB.  It just proves you need more than a QB, you also need a team

Several people were questioning whether he was a franchise quarterback, among them his own team's fans. They weren't even sure he would beat out Mariota in 2020.

Some were also questioning if Brady was done about 3 rings ago lol.  There will always be critics but evne in his worst year he has always put up nice numbers, I think that came with the number of loses but it takes a team. Comical though to think Mariota could be out Carr  He has never really had good weapons.  When Cooper was there he wasn't even that good and led the league in drops it seemed year after year. I mean he's a 3 time Pro Bowler as well and was a MVP candidate a couple years ago as well. Hes has one of the strongest arms in the league, I would of always liked to see him with a true number 1 WR. Waller is great and Ruggs has been looking good the last few weeks

He sux
