If the new GM were to send a second rounder for Wentz would you guys be happy, upset, meh?

I'm pretty sure the Eagles would still take the cap hit on a trade. Now Darnold and Haskins would probably be available and very cheap as quick camp competition.
QB is always No. 1.
Defensive Line is No. 2. Have some pieces but need many more and depth. Safeties and Tight Ends are tied for No. 3. Elite TE, both blocking and catching, is such a game changer for an offense. They still need a good scheme and QB to reach max potential, but lack of that chess piece for 10 years has been a major hindrance for the Jags. Great safeties are extremely underrated, especially FS. You can develop deeper picks sometimes, but a great one can make life so much easier on the rest of the secondary, scheme, and cap. Great Offensive lines are nice, but generally very expensive, don't last long due to injuries and cap issues, etc. I tend to believe that a great coaching scheme with targeted fits can help an offensive line perform above average. The kid is spooked, and it's affected his game. He's going to be a project to get back to normal, and we don't need to invest the time or pick into developing what will likely be a backup. Not only that, but 25M salary guaranteed next year, and over 20M in salary for the three years after that if you trade for him. I'd rather spend the pick on someone else, and roll with Minshew if it came to that.

Darnold and Haskins are both worse than Minshew, and Minshew is on the roster. Haskins is the 3rd sting on the Washington football team. Both are horrible.

Assuming Cincinnati loses out, we'd have to win 2 out of our last 4 to pick 3rd or worse. I'm still holding out hope that the Jets will win a game, and if we we lose out we'd have the #1 overall pick (if the Jags and Jets both have 1 win, based on strength of schedule - right now we would get the #1 overall pick because of having an easier schedule). I'm not saying they should target them. I definitely want them to draft someone. I'm just saying if you are going that route to trade for some other options, they are better targets than Wentz at his salary. |
