I think my pick at the moment would be Joe Hortiz or Daniel Jeremiah with Joe Brady as HC. Brady may young but I am getting some serious McVay vibes with him. Ideally he’d be partnered with an experienced DC like Wade Phillips or Fangio (if fired).

When reading the Justin Jefferson thread, one thought in particular that came to mind is that Vikings GM Rick Spielman has capitalized on many unexpected draft opportunities. At the very least, Vikings Assistant GM George Paton is someone well worth interviewing by teams that have GM opportunities.

Of the GMs that previously had a GM opportunity,, former Texans GM Rick Smith is the one that jumps out favorably. The many talented and effective players Smith brought to Houston speaks for itself.

Though I recall Rick Smith wanted to help take care of his wife, I didn't realize that she passed away. Very sad news.  

Rick Smith seems like an especially good fit when paired with a coaching candidate with a shared vision,  who doesn't have NFL HC coaching experience.

Yes, and also, there are better jobs currently available- for example, I can think of one team with a boatload of draft picks, including one very high in the first round, lots of young talent to build on, a large amount of cap space, and an owner that is very patient.

From a purely executive standpoint, there isn’t a better job elsewhere. As an ambitious GM candidate, I can’t think of a better place to make a name for one’s self.

Rick Smith would be a solid GM choice. Built the tinhorns into a team that smacked us around perennially. Had a great defense. Eventually got a franchise QB. Then left and BoB went to destroying it.

Not me.  For me, it all starts with the players.  It doesn't matter who the coach is if you don't have the players.  And that's been our main problem for the last decade.

I agree that I think the talent level needs to drastically improve but when I say intrigued, I’m just more curious the route they’re going to go.

Young, up and coming, offensive minded HC, veteran HC, defensive minded coach.... things like that.

I am just having a bit o fun.  Still seems to me you would feel more comfortabke just going bsck to where you are already familiar if the bridges were not burned in either direction.

Maybe you iust want to get out on the highway i dunno.  Smith is not a bad choice from what i can gather.
