Jaguars coaching candidates? (merged coaching threads)

No way.
No way would I let him anywhere near Trevor Lawrence.
The man wrecks QBs.
Alex Smith took YEARS to unlearn all the bad habits that Meyer failed to correct.
Tebow never did.
Haskins might never overcome it.
And to top it off he left his last two jobs suddenly, citing health concerns! Do we think the last two years have made him more healthy, or less?!
If we were just going to try to ressurect Haskins the way that Spurrier tried to ressurect Weurffel, I'd be down, but we have a QB with some real bona fides who deserves a real coach.
I guess I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'd probably stop following the Jags if they try to pair Meyer and Lawrence.
And I'm not smarter than anyone in the sports media, but unlike them I'm willing to say the emperor has no clothes.  Meyer might win a few games, but to me it's not worth following a team when they make decisions that are so clearly awful that even a layman like me says, "I could have done better."
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Well guess what? You may not like who the Jags hire.. So suck it up and quit acting like a little [BLEEP] or take your act down the road... Soft [BLEEP] fans..

Pathetic..

He did try to make excuses for one of his coaches who was abusing his wife.

I understand some people not liking Urban as HC.. I understand.. But to threaten to quit being a fan or saying "you're done", just do us all a favor and leave now.. We don't need you.. We don't want you.. Life sucks, get over it.

Nothing more Jaguars than finally being in the most enviable position of every team with an opening and choosing a dude who has never coached in the NFL and has loads of baggage without hiring any of the other extremely qualified candidates.

God Lawrence better be great.

If you're going to pick a college coach, why would you pick Meyer?  Ryan Day is younger, has none of Meyer's baggage, and has been a position coach in the NFL.

Yea that's fine.  I don't have a problem if anyone wants to be skeptical.  Just passing along some interesting info.  But don't want to name who I know.  For one, he may be less likely to tell me things in the future.  And two, don't want to get him in any trouble for sharing info that maybe he should keep to himself.  Although admittedly, I'd be stunned if Shad didnt realize he was a bit of a talker.

Anyways it's not like it's a sure thing.  And while maybe things don't work out, as of last week when I talked to him, definitely sounds like Urban is the front runner.

Exactly.
There are probably better candidates than Day, but I'm not informed enough to be sure.
I am informed enough to be sure Urban is the wrong choice.
I can't support an organization if I believe I could make smarter decisions than them.

If we were going to go the college route Matt Campbell or Lincoln Riley would be far better options IMO.

Which if that's the case, it would just continue to show how clueless Khan is. Why even fire Caldwell in the first place if you're going to just keep his right hand man? Especially if he's pushing for Urban.. That's just proof he should have been sent packing the same day as Caldwell.

While a lot of people on here have been critical of Shad, I've never really had any complaints.  I don't have a problem with an owner (who has zero experience in the NFL at any capacity) being patient and being hands off letting the people he hired run the football operations.

But if we really do settle on a guy like Baalke and sign a guy like Urban who realistically wouldnt be here for very long, I'd be pretty disappointed.  Would feel like a pretty lazy set of hires.  Especially Baalke.  It's almost as if they didn't try.  And Urban, you can make an argument for him.  Obviously been successful everywhere he has gone.   But too many negatives.  Health issues, always has tons of baggage wherever he goes, most likely wouldnt stick around very long.  Cynically my guess is he is a well named guy that could initially sell some interest and tickets.  Doesnt feel like a longterm, culture building type of hire.

Posing as a "truer fan than thou" is never a good look and contributes nothing positive to the conversation.

But then again, you don't see me threatening to quit for not getting my way..

I say bring on Meyer,  just so that little pissant takes his talents elsewhere..

Carry on..

While Urban isn't my choice I'll go along for the ride. It's much more complicated than you guys make it. Who cares if Urban doesn't stay here 20 years...I prefer a guy we can be rid of in 3 years if he can't get the job done.

Long as they hit on TL and get other pieces the team will be competitive. It's about all you can ask for.

If they are used correctly, I'll be happy.
