Jaguars coaching candidates? (merged coaching threads)

I'd much prefer the OC's from BUF and KC.

Not saying you are not entitled to a different opinion than mine.  Hell I solicited opinions on the topic!  But how should a guy who took a team to three straight conference championships, and a Super Bowl appearance where they were within the last minute or so of tying the game be rated?

I mentioned Harbaugh earlier in the thread. I’m completely with you, proven winner, good experience and is good at developing QBs especially at the NFL level.

He would be my ideal move

Pumped. I know it’s a big risk. But Urban Meyer is a winner, he can really change the culture here in JAX. We desperately need that. I’m all for it

Nothing quite like having the opportunity of a lifetime to draft someone like Trevor then immediately wasting the first few years of his career and possibly permanently stunting his progress by putting a guy in charge with zero NFL experience.

Jags are officially meeting with Urban today.

I wonder. How does this affect our search for a GM while conducting HC interviews at the same time? Especially with crazy candidates like Meyer.

It's going to scare off competent candidates, for sure. Who wants to play 3rd fiddle to the owner AND a coach??? No one with any sense.  I hate to say it but I hope you guys are used to this losing business because it's not going anywhere.

I don't think a Brady, Mahomes, Manning, Marino or any other "elite" QB in their prime could save this team from itself. Khan is a bad owner and is getting worse. He just wants the $ and the football side is just child's play to him. Doesn't care, he can have pressers until hes blue in the face. I do not believe him to be genuine. I get an owner wanting input, but to be in charge of contracts and having every move go through him... We might as well start calling him Dan Snyder.

You can call him Dan Snyder if you want.  It's really stupid, but feel free.

Shad has been super hands off and been very patient. That is the complete opposite of Snyder.

Right.  And now he's saying he wants input on financial decisions but sonehow this guy reads that as 'controlling every move'.

I've come around on the idea of Urban Meyer as HC, but I am still just a little bit worried that he could decide to draft Justin Fields instead of Trevor Lawrence.

I think it lessens the chance we get the strong up and coming candidates like Dodds/Borgonzi/Fontenot, and the likelihood that it's a veteran comebacker like Pioli/Smith type increases.

When did he say that?

What he said was since Coughlin left he has reviewed financial decisions. With all due respect with the amount of money Caldwell has wasted for him, I’d probably want to do the same.

Afaik he’s never one said he would do that going forward.

If we hear that the Jags have hired Meyer within the next 24 hours, we will all realize that was Khan's plan all along.

I have not, but if he is hired, I am 100% sure he will draft Lawrence.

Boy this sounds like an even worse idea now.  Let Urban overhaul literally everything in the organization without having any idea if he can coach at this level.  Typical Jag move if it happens.

Since when did the HC give final word on who is drafted?

Agreed, but it makes me sick. We're in such a position of power right now, I don't wanna waste it. This is such a coveted job, why throw that away by hiring a 2nd or 3rd tier guy just because the owner would want to force a HC down his throat with no NFL experience? It makes no sense to me. I pray Khan is smarter than this.

Please tell me Khan isn’t squandering this amazing and rare stroke of fortune.

Leave it to the Jags to change how things are done. Nothing would surprise me. Normally, a GM is hired before a HC. By all indications, that may not happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Meyer was hired and was given unprecedented power by this organization. After 25 years, nothing this team does would surprise me. I'm preparing for everything.

Basically I read your comment as I was having lunch, and completely misread what it was you was saying and thus mistakenly called you out on it.

Hands up, my bad!
