I agree he sucks but the connection does mean something, hopefully he doesn't though.   You dont think the connection to Charlie Strong had anything to do with him coming here?

Meyer does have a really good eye for talent.  If your theory is true then maybe Meyer see's something in Haskins.  He is a young player and didn't play under the best circumstances in Washington.

so he doesn't require 'long arms' in the trenches? that's refreshing.

Minshew is a veteran with experience and a great work ethic, great attitude, intelligent, and a student of the game. He is also a guy who has experienced success and failure.

There is absolutely no reason why he couldn't be a good mentor.

People act like there are these great successful players out there just waiting to be a back up. They just don't exist.

Minshew is about as good as you will find and is about as cheap as you will find.

The only issue is that the backup usually has to have a similar style to the starter since he might have to take his place, and I don't think GM15 is anything like TLaw, but we'll see. Everything else you said I agree with you.

He wants guys to play fast. Not as in fast 40-time so I suppose he means instincts. Fast and fearless means someone like Wingard....

Your list looks pretty good but I think they'll keep Ozigbo in some capacity.

I know they believed Ozigbo to be quite the 'get' when they plucked him from New Orleans.   However, in 2 seasons, he has rushed for a meager 29 yards in 10 carries, and 12 receptions for 65 yards.  His production, especially given Fournette was canned, Armstead didn't get off the covid list, and Thompson played sparingly, was underwhelming.  I think he would have gotten more action if the coaching staff felt he could contribute at a starter or quality rotational level. I think Urban will bring in other RBs, either through FA or the draft.

I know this is a "cuts" thread, but it got me thinking about the back up QB position.

I think we should bring in an experienced Vet to back up Lawrence. Help ease him into the NFL way of things behind the scenes. How to prepare like a pro etc etc.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will be a FA this off season. I think he'd be the perfect guy to bring in to back up Lawrence and show him the ropes.

First, can TL even grow a beard? Second, do we want to see TL in the short shorts?

Not a bad idea, someone like that or a Colt McCoy (no idea on his status and too lazy to look it up if we're being honest) would be good to have around. I'm not so worried about whether the backup can win games in the starters absence as I am in his ability to mentor and develop the off-the-field habits that will foster success.

But yeah, I get that the Shew is cheap, but it's probably better to have someone with a number of years in a number of systems to help our future QB learn the ropes. I have a feeling we deal him for a late pick, maybe recoup his original pick.
