So, what's going to happen with Minshew?

why not try minshew in a different postion then qb. maybe KR, wr or in a lineman to block. we could even try him at TE. just imaine if Trevore, minshew, and tebow all made the 53 man roster.

He’s nothing special and if he plays somewhere else, he will likely end up doing the same thing. All those teams you mentioned went with average QBs too (Darnold Hurts/Flacco and Dalton). Thank god it’s Trevor time so I don’t have to watch Minshew check down instead of hitting Chark downfield.

Does anyone know how many teams kept three quarterbacks on their 53 man roster last year? I tried to look it up, but couldn't find the stat anywhere and didn't have the time to search team by team. My impression is most are only keeping two these days (not counting the practice squad), although I'm sure some have three. Personally, I've advocated keeping three. Teams have a third string at virtually ever other position, why not quarterback? It's the most important position on the team. It's also the position toughest to "plug and play". I know some get around the "plug and play" part by having someone on the practice squad, but you can't put anyone of any value on the practice squad as some other team could sign them. Minshew is dirt cheap being on a sixth round rookie contract. I think it's good to give competition to Beathard and if Minshew doesn't beat him out, he makes great insurance. We're only talking about two injuries for the third string quarterback to get playing time. I don't see the last roster spot as all that important. The last roster spot is usually for some guy that plays special teams. You can hide a position like that on the practice squad much easier than a quarterback. In Baalke's last season in San Francisco, he had 3 QBs on the roster, in Kaepernick, Gabbert and Ponder. Although the Jags most recently have only been keeping 2 on the 53, with 1 on the practice squad as a 3rd QB, it will be interesting to see how many Meyer retains on the 53.

Give the reporter credit, he remains factual in his statement, even if it overinflates the magnitude.
We kept 3 QBs on the roster for a time after trading a 5th for Dobbs.
Anyway, I had a dream last night that Minshew was upset - he felt he was due a pay increase. Since he's not eligible for a contract renegotiation until after his 3rd year, I doubt the validity of said dream. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Haven’t read the whole thread. Mainly I’ve just read the title. Has anyone suggested Porn? Seems like a good calling. That is after his backup career is over.
Another ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler mentioned recently that the Jags might ask for a 5th or 6th round for Gardner. I didn't read the original article on ESPN (it's blocked unless you have a subscription.) But other articles mentioned it and that's what it sounded like. Or the very least that is what insiders believe they might ask for. If that's the case I think they could end up moving Gardner relatively quickly. That is a good bargain for another team that is looking to acquire another QB.

Contrary to popular belief, there should be a "competition" for the starting slot right now between Gardner and Trevor. A starting spot should NEVER be given based on draft position. Trevor Lawrence has never taken an NFL snap in a live NFL game. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. That is a good bargain for another team that is looking to acquire another QB. It's interesting because Gardner has been taking reps with the ones. Granted that might be largely because Trevor is coming off an injury/surgery and maybe they didn't want to work him too much. And/or maybe they wanted Gardner to have at least some reps with the ones for various reasons. IT sounds like Gardner has overall been pretty solid during this OTA's and holding his own. From what I have read of reports so far, he's been no worse than the 2nd best QB on the team overall. And at times has looked like the best in certain areas like having good rhythm with the receivers. I can understand a coaching staff preferring to put certain people into starting spots. Including first round draft picks, with a lot of talent and upside. But I also think it's good to be willing to evaluate the QB position as needed. I wouldn't mind seeing Gardner/Trevor compete for the starting position. I do think that Trevor will more than likely end up starting, whether the staff considers having them compete or not. I do wonder if Gardner is on the move. Not only did more information come out about the Jags possibly trading him today and their potential asking price, but the Eagles just cut one of their QB's on the roster this afternoon. I wonder if they could be trying to make room for him. The last I read he was possibly headed to Philly. (That was the report from a little while ago from the Carolina Panthers reporter who said she heard Gardner there was a good chance Gardner would end up there).
I wouldnt take anything less than a 4th. A healthy Minshew is one of tge best back ups in tge league. His hand is healthy again
How about a tight end (Ertz) and a 5th or 6th? The Eagles have big cap issues and this would save them 8.5 million less 850k.... We have the room and Ertz's contract is up 2022. That is in line with the 2 year deals they have been doing.... maybe not but just saying

I just say keep him.
Not a bad problem. Either a capable back-up, or just character on the sideline. If some desperate team offered us a solid tight end I would definitely consider it.
