I remember my dad howling with laughter at "All in the Family". I was too young then to get it. That show was way ahead of it's time.

On occasion my parents would put on The Lawrence Welk Show when it showed on PBS. Did you know Lawrence Welk, with his fresh off the boat accent, was born and raised in North Dakota? He didn't learn to speak English until his early 20s and was never comfortable speaking it.

Ours was Dukes of Hazard and Dallas on Friday nights. We lived for that show. It's still a mystery as to how a character named Cooter was allowed on network television. But those were the days. Lol. And why Dallas? I don't know but the cliffhanger of the century was "who shot JR?" I remember hearing people talk about it after church.

Saturday morning was definitely about the cartoons.

For a couple of reasons. The first is because TVs used to be considered a piece of furniture. Nicer ones were encased in heavy wood cabinets and weighed a ton. The other is TVs were actually repairable. Containing tubes, discrete and modular components, troubleshooting and repairing a TV was relatively easy. Today they’re much more reliable and considered consumables outside of some minor repairs.
