Urban on the Hotseat

Meyer is a slime ball. He straight up blamed his other coaches and it was he who pulled Robinson. Trevor had to get him back in.

Screw him. Get the heck out of here we don’t need

Do you think it will be before or after the 2023 draft?

Unfortunately, with Khan's track record, no. If it were me though, I would've never hired him in the first place.

As much as I would love that, there is a 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999 chance it will not happen.

Only this franchise would select a coach who calls the very staff he hired a bunch of losers, and questioning thier professional resumes when he has none himself. Terrible leader of real men. Its clear that he can only lead 18 - 20 year old's. He should be fired Monday, and at most should not survive this season.

That’s a ballsy take at this point.  Borderline delete your account if you’re wrong type of take.  I like the optimism though.

Need to cut ties with him. Bad hire. Needs to go back to College where he belongs.

A few things.

1) Your college record means squat here. You have two career wins at this level, loser.
2) Playing the "I won and you didn't so I'm better" card is only going to expedite the departure of any coaches we actually want around here if Urbz is allowed to stay
3) #2 is also going to be a fantastic tool to use when seeking to replace all the coaches that tell him to [bleep] up a rope
4) I really hope that the other players and coaches take this to the very damn top and give Shad the ultimatum, this [BLEEP] or the rest of us. It's the only feasible way we're likely rid of him before 2023
5) Good luck convincing any FA to sign here after all these stories keep dropping.

Note: quick edit to self-censor

The only reason a franchise or university puts up with Urbans behavior is if he's winning. He has always been a piece of garbage but at least he won.

I'm legit just waiting for the tweet to come from someone that he's fired so I can move on.

I honestly think that the heat is on him so bad at this point he actually throws in the towel and resigns for "health reasons" at the end of the year.

If he doesn't, next season we'll need to have someone on guard at the modis building 24-7 just to avoid any messy cleanups.

His job is safe until the middle of next season if the team continues to spiral. We’re getting snippets of conversations and situations taken out of context that are stoking the fans for Urban’s head. It doesn’t excuse the poor performance of the team, but his hold on the job is not as tenuous as most want to believe.

Im definitely at the point where I think it'd be best for everyone if Urban left. I've never been a fan per se but was always willing to give him time based on his track record. I think the common phrase you hear a lot on the boards "can't recruit in the nfl" is lazy. He didn't go undefeated at Utah by out recruiting anyone. Nobody knew how to stop his spread.  Out coached his opponents. Completely changed his offensive philosophy early on at Florida to fit Chris leak and won a title. Late in the year at Ohio st changed his offense again to fit backup qb cardale Jones. He could recruit but he could also coach. And more importantly would adapt to his personnel. And if he has ample time between games he usually could come up with a great game plan.

Shipley had a good tweet yesterday that the Urban we're seeing isn't the one Shad thought he was hiring. And definitely isn't the meyer we saw in college. It seems like he is barely involved. No idea who is on the field and why. Disagreements with basic philosophy of the offense. Not adapting to fit strengths of the team and players. He has even admitted that over time he felt like his coaching style has gotten away from micromanaging but that may be to his detriment. Prisco keeps calling him just a figurehead and it definitely feels that way. Almost everything about him feels different than the guy who dominated college football.

Feel like a broken record but it did feel like the team was improving week to week and culminated with that first win in London. But ever since then it's just a train wreck of epic proportion. Feels like every week is worse than the one before. And most importantly it feels like Lawrence is losing confidence and not progressing at all.  This is turning into near worst case scenario. Don't see how keeping Urban another year will fix anything.

I mentioned something similar before. If you want to win with Meyer, you need the "about to have a heart-attack, us-against-the-world, only got 2 hours of sleep all week" version of Meyer. That guy absolutely hated to lose and coached like he had a grudge against you.

This version of Meyer is a grumpy, uninterested, senior citizen, who is more interested in feeding his own ego

Urbs won at Utah with the previous coaches recruits. Left for Florida after only 2 years. The Utes took a few years to recover. He is dependent upon his assistants to make him look good. Guy is a Teflon coated corporate type guy. My grandmother could recruit at Florida and Ohio State. He cannot evaluate talent. He will short circuit when he has to make a decision that he cannot blame on someone else if things go wrong.

I suppose that is one way to frame it. A more honest and accurate way would be to say he took over a losing team and with someone else's players only lost two games in two years and turned them into top 5 team nationally. And once he left, the team fell back to where they were beforehand. People can try to rewrite history but it's undeniable Urban was a great coach. And Shipley is 100% right. This version of Urban we got isn't the one that Shad thought he was hiring, the guy that tore through college football. We got some disinterested figurehead.
