The Bucs were the worst team in the entire NFL in terms of giveaways. The team had a losing record. I don't think Leftwich can brag about that season. His success as an offensive coordinator is exclusively with Brady. I wouldn't hate it if Leftwich was the choice. I'd be happy that it wasn't Bevell or BOB. Having Brady doesn't prove he's bad, but it also doesn't prove he's good. I see him as risky. My preference would be a safer pick. I agree with you that I would also prefer someone with head coaching experience. As for not having a good quarterback, I would point out that Pederson won a Super Bowl with Nick Foles as his quarterback. Nathaniel Hackett went to the AFC Championship Game with Blake Bortles as his quarterback. I think both of those feats are more impressive than winning a Super Bowl with Tom Brady. Why should Leftwich jump over them? I think many people are being influenced by name recognition and nostalgia. Only hire Leftwich if he's the best for the job. Previously playing here shouldn't factor into the equation. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I’m not commenting on the pros or cons of the NFL policy, just pointing it out That policy wasn't for the team that hired them but instead for the team that helped develop them into being hired. I'm not personally wanting Hackett, but I'm also being a little whiny about the playcalling in the second half of the AFCG. But Pederson may not actually want to coach under Baalke and it seems like we are keeping him. Leftwich would be the HC but have an experienced coach as either a position coach or VP something. That would allow him to get feedback if needed without him being on his own and having to reach out to external people who may not have time or be the competition.

I'm more focused on his success as an OC and things I'm reading about his command of the locker room. The guy has always been a 'film rat'. So far I'm liking everything I'm hearing about him. Not only that, why would people be 'nostalgic' about a not very good quarterback? If it were Brunell...maybe. Leftwich? It's not like he was a star. There's no such thing as a 'safe pick'. ![]()
I’m not completely sold on Leftwich. He’s a good OC and motivator, but based on his persona when he was here before, I see him struggling with all the duties of a HC. I’ve always considered him a little lackadaisical.

I would take Leftwich over O'Brien....

Part of it stems from when he was here and the team offered to send him to a QB camp, on their dime, to help him improve. He turned it down. People change, I get it, but I always received the impression from him that he was more for himself than the team. Some will argue it is unfounded, and they’re likely right, but that’s what I remember about his time here. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

When you have a GM like we do it really restricts your choices. Is it true the last 5 years of his career the HC has lost his job? If so we should begin the search for next year now maybe? (just to be proactive)

It's more than being a film rat and putting a priority on giving game time to players with performance incentives in their contracts. No reason to bring up something that’s most likely not true. |
