Serious question, who was the last coach that was a retread? Reid? I do not know the answer to that question, maybe that means that retreads are just as likely to fail as new hc's. They likely come with other issues and benefits, an issue I can think of is they may be stubborn because they know what works. A benefit could be that they know what works :-P

Quite a few current or future HOF coaches were retreads. Heck, Coughlin was a retread when he won a Superbowl in New York.

I actually feel better about Leftwich then I thought I would be on hiring him. I guess that could be a return to optimism and that means it probably won't happen.

Honestly there is huge bust potential in anything we do. We need to figure out a way to get fundamentals working and build. No cute crap, buzz words, rah rah nonsense, or anything that doesn't focus on winning.

Need to win one on ones, win in the trenches, win and build up and execute.

Listen, I don't mean this as a dis against first time coaches. Everyone has to start somewhere and I think Leftwich will end up as a good HC at some point but the Jags have to play the odds.

There's always a risk but you have to minimize it if you can, especially in this case. A candidate with previous HC experience is just a safer bet IMO.

Prior coaching experience at LOSING. the best you can get is a mediocre coach or he would not be out there to be recycled. At least with getting a new up and coming offensive genius there is a blank slate. You could have something great there and not mediocre.

"Recycled" coaches have won 15 of the last 20 Super Bowls.  

Interesting enoughly, of the 5 exceptions, one of them is Doug Pederson who is available for us to hire right now.  He should be the choice.

To the other dude, Leftwich is a hot commodity and if we don't get him it's very likely any number of other teams could scoop him up. 1/4 of the league needs a head coach right now.

Hmm ? to the upper dude… there are many other hot commodities, and aside from Moore, Byron has the least experience of all.

Yes, but would you have hired Coughlin to be the "new" coach of the Jaguars? (Yes I know he was with us before NY, but pretend he was with another team and just let go by them).

Winston not only had his career high in interceptions under Leftwich, but it was over double the number he averaged in his prior four years.

Every QB that played for BA threw for a record number of interceptions the first year they played for him except Brady.

Also what I find funny about this argument is you're basically putting blame on Leftwich for Winston's inability to read defenses but then give Brady all of the credit for what he's done with the Bucs.

Tom Brady was clearly good prior to playing for Leftwich.  Have you been in this country long?  

In regards to Winston, try to keep up with the conversation.  Leftwich fans were arguing that he didn't need Brady to have a great offense and used Winston's year as their only example.  That so-called great offense was the WORST team in the entire NFL in turnovers.  I have trouble calling any offense that is worst in the league in turnovers as good, not to mention great.

Not sure I would call a coach on his 2nd head coaching gig a retread. Are Pete Carroll, Belichick, Dungy, Parcells, Jimmy Johnson (and a whole bunch more) also considered retreads? I dont consider Reid a retread either. You dont obtain retread status until maybe your 3rd or 4th hire as head coach, IMHO.

Moore is a hot commodity too. So are a bunch of other guys. But there are also 8 job openings. Lots of hot commodities will get jobs, I think Leftwich included if not by us then someone else would greedily snatch him up this cycle.

I just hope they pick a head coach that has been a head coach before. There are not many that get it "right" the first time around. (no matter hot a commodity they are) Just my opinion. Also, I would prefer they did not hire one that half the fan base does not like even before being hired like Urban was.

My motto is to ignore idiots. Just like in life I don't give idiots the time of day. The people on my block list I do not respect while they rarely have anything worth reading aside from insulting other users.
